LGKMAS -> Air losses (11/5/2020 8:47:39 AM)

Okay
Playing FOW against the AI.
Looked at the air losses list from the i Screen.
After 11 months of play I decided to see how my air losses compared.
I called up the screen.

C:\Users\61412\Desktop\WITP -AE Air shot.png
This shows the losses as per the sidebar do not agree with the losses in the main chart.
Is this FOW? Or is there something I am missing>

LGKMAS -> RE: Air losses (11/5/2020 8:52:16 AM)

That did not come across as I had expected. How do I get a screenshot to appear? I thought clicking on image would work but I was obviously wrong.
There doesn't seem to be any intuitive button to press to insert images. Or am I too old fashioned and there is a new title for o=inserting pictures etc?

I tried doing this as per the instructions but I still do not see a screen shot. Is this because I am posting and others can see it or is it still not appearing?

jdsrae -> RE: Air losses (11/5/2020 8:57:33 AM)

I’ve noticed a lot of FOW in the reported numbers of enemy aircraft lost.
The reported enemy numbers seem to change daily.
I first noticed it when enemy P40 losses were above everything else then next time I checked they were a lot lower.
The truth will come out when the war ends!

Hey Holdfast
Nice to know but did you see my screenshot?

[image][C:\Users\61412\Desktop\WITP -AE Air shot.png/image]

should be

quote:

[image]C:\Users\61412\Desktop\WITP -AE Air shot.png [/image]

In other words, the bracket "[" should be before the "/" and not before the "C" so that is your problem.

Forum only supports gif, or jpg format. You should also check "Embed picture in post" field - that one only shows when you are making whole post, not during quick reply.

No, can't see the image, but I think I know what you mean.
Sometimes the two different sums are a bit out, so put it down to the fog.

LGKMAS -> RE: Air losses (11/5/2020 11:13:03 PM)

Thanks guys for the tip. I had used Greenshot(?) for the screenshot for the first time and as it had been talked about before on this forum, thought it would be suitable for posting as it was. I didn't realise the forum only supported jpg or gif. I will try and convert to jpg next time.
And I will try and remember to make a new post when doing so rather than a reply.
I will experiment a bit and see if I can get familiar with this as whenever a question is asked, the inevitable first reply asks for a screenshot.

BBfanboy -> RE: Air losses (11/6/2020 1:00:41 AM)

Not really a new post- but use the blue reply button at the top bar of any post, rather than the orange fast reply button.

RangerJoe -> RE: Air losses (11/6/2020 1:34:50 PM)

If you edit your own post, then you can add the picture then, if I remember correctly.

Right, just click on the text that says "Change image embedding" first and it will give you the chance to Browse to your file location and "Open" (select) your picture. Then keep selecting OK about four times until you have posted the picture. Be sure to have checked the box "Embed picture in post" before the last OK.

Or press the button in the quick reply marked 'image'and put the web location of the image in there, after uploading it to imgur (free service) first. Here is a hellcat in typical 1944 colour scheme. Sometimes pictures you location copy have some positioning code after the .jpg that places them on the page and resizes, best to strip that off.

Or you could just post interesting pictures:

LGKMAS -> RE: Air losses (11/7/2020 10:43:30 PM)

[image]C:\Users\61412\Desktop\WITP -AE Air shot.jpg[/image]
Did that work?

EDIT: Apparently not!

BTW, BBF, I cannot see any text about "change image embedding". All I get is a number of buttons just above the Font line with one of them being Image and at the bottom a tick box about "embed picture in post." which I have ticked. I had to manually type in the file path between the two image codes. And I did use Post Reply rather than fast reply.
I will do a Forum search to check for any FAQs about posting screenshots.

Edit: I just went back to my original post and tried the Edit function and it allowed me to upload as an attachment the file I wanted to display. It did take a bit of toing and froing to get it working. Does this work on any edit including those as a Reply?
And how do I get the File to open IN the post so people can see what I am taking about without having to open another window to see the file? I have tried again to embed a picture. Let's see if this works.

LGKMAS -> RE: Air losses (11/7/2020 11:02:18 PM)

Well, that finally worked. Not sure how but I think I can remember. Looks like edit is the way to go.
What a start to a Sunday!

RangerJoe -> RE: Air losses (11/7/2020 11:21:57 PM)

Just add the picture and make sure that it is embedded in the post so people can see it like this one:

BBfanboy -> RE: Air losses (11/7/2020 11:53:50 PM)

When you use the blue "reply" button the bottom of the post box has the text "Embed picture in post" and a check box next to the "Click here to upload" hypertext (clickable). When you edit a post, the check box text changes to "Change image embedding" or words like that.

LGKMAS -> RE: Air losses (11/9/2020 9:39:05 AM)

Ranger Joe,
I just wish I had access to the resources you obviously have!
BBFANBOY
I will try a few things based on what you are saying. A few different approaches to the problem. I like it!

Btw, Thanks to all who offered assistance in this. Much appreciated.

Ian R -> RE: Air losses (11/9/2020 1:05:16 PM)

LGKMAS -

You can't use the [image]...[/image] code to put a picture up directly from your machine, you have to upload it onto the internet somewhere first, so you can link it into the post.

If you have already uploaded the image to an internet site like imgur or similar, it assigns it an internet address in the form of an https adress. That is what you insert in the image code using the image button.

I just right clicked on Ranger Joe's image above and clicked copy image location and it tells me it is: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/upfiles/52896/E3848F799D2A4630B5E6470CFD1E832D.jpg

The forum software helpfully takes an image you attach and puts it in the 'upfiles' bucket so you don't have to copy the address into the post yourself .

Ian R -> RE: Air losses (11/9/2020 1:09:33 PM)

By the, way, the address of your image is: https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/upfiles/34899/77DA72F8DCD14C1CB28660DC8C09569C.jpg

The address of the image I posted is https://www.cruisnews.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/001-696x464.jpg because I linked the image from there, rather than uploading it to the image bucket here.
