Heatseeker -> Troubles with bombers. (11/15/2020 2:34:09 AM)

I have been attempting to implement a few heavy bombers into AB, and have ran into the wall of the game spontaneously ceasing without a error message once they enter the battlefield.

I suspected this was caused by the size of the sprites (quite large), but reducing the size to levels comparable to default aircraft has not fixed the issue.

You say that there has not been an error message, so there probably is nothing in the error.log file in the game folder?

There is no error message corresponding to the crashes in error. I might try further decreasing the sprite size and see if that helps.

Further decreasing the sprite size has worked, and the original size of the aircraft in game relative to everything else is preserved via spritescale. To be fair, I haven't exactly rigorously tested this.

The only issue now is that the sprite overlaps the UI in various places when the unit is selected.

How large sprites have you been using?

Previously something like 500 x 1500, but now I am using sprites comparable in size to those in the default database.

That's pretty huge. One important thing to know about the textures is that they're loaded in the power of two sizes (128*128, 256*256, 512*512 etc.). For example if you have a 500*1500 image it's loaded as 2048*2048. It uses quite a bit of video memory, especially in our game when you can have hundreds of such units on the map.
