AndrewJ -> Awareness level question (11/17/2020 10:52:09 PM)

Hello,

I'm looking at a scenario with a very large number of civilian ships on a separate Civilian side.

If I set the Civilian side to Awareness Level = Blind, do those units A) not do any of their spotting calculations (thus saving some processor time), or B) do they still do all the spotting calculations, but simply don't use or share the information (not saving much processor time)?

Just curious!

Thanks,

Andrew

A simple test is create a scenario with a few thousand neutral ships. Try it once with blind and once without. I might have a go at it out of curiosity. Probably doesn't even have to be neutral.

A quick run through of Salvo with 2700 units and four sides. With every side blind, scan times were between 13 and 28 ms through 8 minutes at fastest time. With the normal awareness, the scans were 21 to 53 ms with some spikes at 100 ms.

Its far from a perfect test. The better test is to not have any hostile sides at all. But directionally, it sure looks like a blind side reduces CPU cycles. I also have a chart showing CPU loading and the non-blind run had a noticeably higher load on the CPU.

I tried to keep everything as normalized as I could, so take it for what it is. Resolved my curiosity.

Yes, Blind side settings do save significantly on simulation time. All scenarios I create have blind sides for Civilian and Nature.

The answer is basically A [:)]
