Ktonos -> Make Italy possible to join CP if AH gives in to the demands (11/21/2020 7:33:46 PM)

I do not mean to have Italy auto join or something, rather that they would switch alignment as a major, and go say to 10-20% CP mobilization. After that it would be up to the CP player to invest diplo and attract her.

Historically this could be the outcome if Austria folded to the Italian demands. If this seems OP for the CP I'll say the game is favoring a tad the Entente, at least in my experience its far more common you'll have the CP collapsing early than the other way around.

If it still seems that every CP player would choose to give in to Italy I remind you it would take a great investment in diplo, which even if it succeeds it will do so much later (maybe Italy joins in 1917?). Plus it can be countered by diplo from the Entente majors. If it stills seems OP, you could have the Austrians limited to how many chits they can invest in Italy (same way USSR and the rest are limited in Spain in SC Europe).

Finally I think there is a game breaking issue with Italy; if the CP player gives in, Italy is still controlled by the Allied player; Which means he can evacuate all objective cities, then Dow and capture them in 1 turn, taking huge income and opening a new front.

Hi

Your last sentence is the reason this isn't allowed in game, but you can experience what it might have been like to have had Italy on the side of the Central Powers by playing the 1914 Triple Alliance campaign.

The idea of some form of 'bidding' for Italy can be actually quite interesting - instead of an Italy that is just 'predetermined'.

Ktonos is correct in saying that no player should control Italy whilst it is neutral. He litterally means that the Entente player can just move the Italian troops in remote places, and then invade Italy at their own convenience. (Something absolutely non realistic). Yet the game mechanics allows precisely that whereas A-H Empire yields grounds.

In similar fashion Italy had territorial interests / claims in France (Namely Corsica and the Nice region), that were given to Napoleon III's France for their help against the A-H Empire...

I think what Bill says is that there isn't currently a way to make a major switch sides. Only way to have Italy switch alignment would be to make her a minor (?). Unless I misunderstood.

Ktonos is correct, and the reason it cannot switch sides is to prevent anyone from moving its units to remote places and then invading. This is not possible in the game at all.

Just thinking out loud here;

major switching sides seems like it should be possible (based on WW2:WaW Italy)

a "mobilisation" script adding extra units in case of Allied DoW seems like it ought to prevent all but the most determined "and invade"? (and if you mobilise sufficient units, those "moved out of the way" units are just going to be "extra" units to be used by the CP later - alternatively a "clean slate", with all Italian units deleted, and re-added by script?)

It can technically be done, and the mechanism uses a surrender script. This sounds like it could be a good idea for a mod?
