Couple questions - when do the Separate Tank Battalions upgrade, is this automatic at some point?

Also some advice - what do folks think the best SU mix is for Tank Corps, Cav Corps, Rifle Corps, and Mech Corps?

I think its 1943 for regiments to upgrade, and yes is automatic.

with all the changes the most CV is the motorcycle regiments now. So a mix of Motorcycles, and tank BN/Assault BN or regiments is prolly the best.

For you assault guard rifle corps you want the flamethrower tanks.

Haven’t played that far with Soviets but don’t you want non-mech elements for SUs for rifle corps? At least with axis I am very careful to use PzJg and flamms with armor commanders because their ratings apply per element. 10 CV flamm batallions are common.

CAV Corps: I like Ski units (for the blizzard bonus) or MG-ART (which functions very similarly to the ski units); Sappers; and Tanks for extra oomph

RIFLE Corps: I like to do Sappers; MG-ART; you can do flame tanks or heavy tanks, but they are few and far between

TANK Corps: I am not a big fan of ever building new tank brigades during the game. Just keep the ones you start with and don't ever rebuild any if you ever lose any during 1941 or 1942. That being said, you can add specialty tanks, but you want some Sappers; Motorcycle SUs because they are mobile

MECH Corps: The best Soviet corps in the game from 1943 on once they get to Guard status. Build mech brigades over tank brigades every time, they get very powerful with late game TOE changes. I would put your best heavy SUs (flame tanks, heavy tanks, HEAVY SUs) in here.
