Belisarius -> scotland! (8/13/2003 5:05:43 PM)

Hey guys, it looks like I'm going on a small 12-day hiatus to Scotland in September w/ a couple of buddies.

We don't have a strict schedule, we're arriving/departing at Newcaste travelling by car and plan to see the 'obvious' historical sites, as many destilleries as possible and do some hiking as well.

Enough of that, here's the question; Are there any museums/displays in Scotland with WWII armor worth seeing? :p

Well, you can always try to snap a pic of Nessie and post it for us!

;) :D

Aaach it's Scotland laddie, you dun't think we would still have yer armour up here 50 years later in all this bloody damp would ye?

That stuff rusts ya know.

ha ha ha thanx for killing my thread, guys. :D

Guess I'll have to concentrate on the destilleries then... :p

What're friends for, eh?

:D

Reg -> Yes but.... (8/15/2003 4:00:50 PM)

If you're interested, there's plenty of non-WWII military history there though.

Check out Fort George near Inverness, home of the Scottish Regiments - very impressive.

(Or is this one of the 'obvious' historical sites.... :rolleyes: )

Cheers,
Reg.

Fort George is an excellent place to visit, gives you the history of the Highland Regiments from way back to the 1st Gulf War. Culloden is just down the road, a little bit comercial but worth a look, at least we English came out on top in that one.

Reg,

Thanks, we will probably pass the Inverness area so I'll nag the others about a visit. It's not 'obvious' like Edinburgh Castle-obvious, so it'd be nice to check out and at least for me the Highland regiments are amongst the 'known' Royal Army units.

The fort itself looks very impressive. :)
