gonzoo -> Some questions (12/14/2020 2:45:43 PM)

First game with a human. I play as Axis, not so bad too now.
I got some questions:
- how capture Leningrad? My main front is far away on the east but the city is supplied from sea. Even if I got some planes and fleet to intercept convoys, his troops seem supplied.
- Is the flak useless? Is there any research to improve it. Strategic bombers takes no damage...
- Is there a penalty for german during winter, besides combat?
- I did not try in that game but how to capture Norway?
- I manage with lots of difficulties to capture Greece before 41. Yugoslavia is so blocked at 55% toward Allies. Will it stay like this forever?
- How to deal with Lybia or Egyptia as the supply is so bad, that troops are never in good shape?
- Is it usefull to bombard troops before assaulting?

I will try my best to answer:

1) Capture Leningrad - You will need to surround it. In the summer you will need to use air units and/or naval units to interdict the naval supply from the port as you mentioned(2 naval 3 air will do the trick I think). Repeated air attacks, reduce effectiveness. Since it's fortified, make sure you leave some air to support your ground forces. In winter, you need to also capture the road of life to prevent supplies entering the city over water. It will require quite a commitment.

- Is the flak useless? Is there any research to improve it. Strategic bombers takes no damage...

2) I find flak most effective when you have 3+ of them in a hex. I like to move them around to fortified areas too, like Leningrad. As Germany, I try to keep a bunch on my oil refineries.

- Is there a penalty for german during winter, besides combat?

3) Yes, During cold and blizzard weather reduces effectiveness recovery by 10%(cold) and 20%(blizzard). This will have a big impact if your unit is sitting on a supply hex of 1-3.

- I did not try in that game but how to capture Norway?

4) Invasion and capture of it's capital, Oslo.
- I manage with lots of difficulties to capture Greece before 41. Yugoslavia is so blocked at 55% toward Allies. Will it stay like this forever?

5) You need to invade Yugo and conquer it now. I believe that was a rule change.

- How to deal with Lybia or Egyptia as the supply is so bad, that troops are never in good shape?
6) I would need to see a pic but I'm assuming you are trying to invade Egypt from Libya. Your ports can only handle so much supply, so you need to watch the number of troops you have in Egypt attacking. If you start seeing a message saying, this troop is only getting basic supply and not reinforced, then you probably have too many troops for the number of ports. Try to bring HQs with you, because they add +1 to a hexes supply level of 1 or more to extend your supply line.

- Is it usefull to bombard troops before assaulting?

7)Yes, the first attack could damage it's strength, every other attack will reduce its effectiveness to fight. Be careful of the enemy placing their interceptors on full support. They will be able to intercept your bombers.

"You need to invade Yugo and conquer it now. I believe that was a rule change."

Really? I thought if the Axis could take Greece before the Allied coup, then it would become an Axis minor, and don't remember reading about that changing in the 1.00.9 patch, but it's possible I missed that.

malkarma -> RE: Some questions (12/15/2020 11:36:22 AM)

It changed in the 1.00.8 patch

So there's no way to make Yugoslavia an axis minor now if Diplomacy option is "off" and little point in invading Greece early?

At least, I have no problem with this country.

New questions:
- it usefull to get ressources from it? I mean compare to the fact that we have to pay for combats, oil, partisans.
- I understand that a captured city of 5 size provide 1 point for production. Could you confirm it?

Thanks all for the answers, the manual book is too light on many aspects.

ago1000 (thank you) says that it's usefull to bombard before assault but is is true that it does nothing to entranchement?

Yes. Yugo has to be invaded now, the rule was changed.

Depends on your strategy. I take it. You will get a gain of about 350 PP(one armor unit) for the whole game given the cost of 4 Div to garrison it.

I understand that a captured city of 5 size provide 1 point for production. Could you confirm it?
That is not correct. An urban city with a brown circle hex of 5 will provide 5 PP and that 5PP is effected by the economic multiplier, 5 times (economic multiplier). The economic multiplier you can see in the production screen. Green circles effect morale of a country.
So per turn PP gain: 20 x (economic multiplier + 1%)

ago1000 (thank you) says that it's usefull to bombard before assault but is is true that it does nothing to entranchement?

It will not effect entrenchment. Only unit specialty Heavy Artillery reduces entrenchment by 10%.

OxfordGuy3 -> RE: Some questions (12/15/2020 8:42:19 PM)

I thought that you only got 1/3 the production value for conquered resources - is that not how it actually works?

ago1000 -> RE: Some questions (12/15/2020 10:41:26 PM)

My apologies. I stand corrected. 20/3*(multiplier+1%) = PP per turn. Thanks OxfordGuy3, missed that point.

jjdenver -> RE: Some questions (5/10/2021 1:30:53 AM)

You mentioned it takes 4 divisions to garrison Yugo - which hexes do they go in to garrison it? ty.

stjeand -> RE: Some questions (5/14/2021 7:37:16 PM)

I garrison the 2 cities, the strategic resource and both ports so use 5...those ports are tough to get back if the UK can invade them.
But if you watch their navy you can get way with 4 units and leave the northern most port open...but be ready to rail a unit there if you see ships at sea within 24 hexes.
