warspite1 -> RE: warspite1 (Allies) vs AllenK (Axis) Full Campaign (12/25/2020 6:16:03 AM)

21 June 1940

Well having mucked up the French defence, I threw everything I had at trying to rectify things....

The French infantry ferociously counter-attacked the VII Infantry Corps northwest of Paris, leaving the Germans badly mauled. A British and French operation to the north of Paris cost the German 3rd Panzers heavily too. The Royal Air Force did what they could against 11th Panzer on the coast and 3rd Panzer, holding the neck of the advance south. But neither have been crippled and 5th Panzer remains practically untouched.

Amazingly I then forgot to reinforce my British corps on the French coast before spending all my points elsewhere.... what a schmuck.

Things go from bad to worse in the desert. I forgot there may be Italian naval vessels in the Red Sea and am about to lose a South African infantry corps as a result....

You are lacking a Chinese HQ in the south of China.

Great AAR, thank you.

It is really not bad, quite opposite. It's the Axis who have to add some more gas, both in Europe and China. Good luck.

BTW, your MPP gain for USSR is very, very big. Did GER annex Lithuania? Sorry if it was mentioned.

Yes I've been thinking about this for some time. However, the losses taken have made a purchase impossible. I aim to rectify this as soon as I can. But that depends on the Japanese to a great extent [;)]

Thank-you.

I think not putting an Army in Paris was rather short-sighted....

Re Lithuania, yes it looks like the Germans have occupied this Baltic State.

19 July 1940

It's so hard to keep up with the replay as more and more happens!

Plans for buying an HQ continue to be hampered by unreasonable Japanese behaviour [:D]

The front in the far north of China re-awakens with an attack on XLIII Corps by the 1st Kwantung Army. The attack wasn't sustained and the losses not too bad.

warspite1 -> RE: warspite1 (Allies) vs AllenK (Axis) Full Campaign (12/26/2020 1:37:54 AM)

19 July 1940

On the Southern Front the Japanese make their first move into the Changsha-Kweilin gap. II Corps comes under attack and takes some losses. In Nanning, 4th Army is hit heavily once again, although the army in Kweilin did not move south to join in the fight against 4th Army, but instead vented its fury against the corps to the north of Nanning.

Note: 1st Army is an arrival this turn.

warspite1 -> RE: warspite1 (Allies) vs AllenK (Axis) Full Campaign (12/26/2020 1:52:13 AM)

19th July 1940

I swap out corps to ensure I have a solid line running north from Nanning. The intention (should the Japanese allow it) is for this line's left flank to be anchored on 12th Army, whilst 4th Army moves north of Nanning to hold the northern shoulder of the river line.

It is tempting to move a corps south of the river (where the Japanese seem to remain understrength) but I have to be mindful that with the fall of France, presumably French Indo China will become Japanese and so give the enemy the chance to outflank me. I therefore need to be sensible here and not succumb to any more fanciful operations....

19th July 1940

My dumbarse mistake with the British proves costly, and 1 Corps is destroyed....

The French lose Paris - and their tank force. The blocking garrison that was moved into position southwest of Metz is also destroyed.

warspite1 -> RE: warspite1 (Allies) vs AllenK (Axis) Full Campaign (12/26/2020 2:22:38 AM)

19th July 1940

I counter-attack everywhere I can, but my airforces are too weak to even make a dent in the German defenders. Although a counter attack against Paris is impossible, a British and French attack on the panzer unit north of Paris is ultimately successful, leaving the occupiers of Paris - temporarily at least - isolated.

I can't believe the number of panzer units the Germans have! I decide to abandon the positions in Alsace Lorraine and pull every unit back toward the capital. The stupid loss of the British I Corps is really badly felt now [:@]

The South Africans survived - though are down to a strength of just 3. I brought battleship squadron south to sink the pesky Italian destroyers but they didn't have any effect at all....

19th July 1940

All is quiet - for the moment - on the convoy front. my subs did some damage to the Axis convoys between Norway and Germany too. I removed the sub from the area this turn as I didn't want to out stay my welcome.

I must remember to turn off the Indian supply route [:@]

johanssb -> RE: warspite1 (Allies) vs AllenK (Axis) Full Campaign (12/26/2020 1:54:36 PM)

No need to build a new one just now. Move one from the North. Most of your Chinese army is in the South and leaderless.

Mmmm that's a little disappointing. I have a decision to make - and this potentially is one of the more interesting ones. I don't know exactly what this means in points lost terms but I say YES

warspite1 -> RE: warspite1 (Allies) vs AllenK (Axis) Full Campaign (12/26/2020 4:54:30 PM)

16 August 1940

Nanning is left alone as the Japanese concentrate on the forces to the north. IV Corps barely escapes (1 point) and retreats. I also retreat IV Corps to the southwest. I decide to give the Japanese no freebies and if they want to attack next turn, they will have to move first.

I do what I should have done ages ago and start to move an HQ south, and also purchase another one.

After this picture was taken I decided to move III Corps so that XII Corps (two hexes north of Nanning) moves one hex northwest. This is all very risky because it exposes Nanning even more, but as said, I want the Japanese to have to advance away from supply if they want to attack.

warspite1 -> RE: warspite1 (Allies) vs AllenK (Axis) Full Campaign (12/26/2020 5:11:50 PM)

16 August 1940

The end game in France. The German airforce alone practically annihilated the French - and then the panzers finished off the two armies northwest of Paris. The third loss was the sacrificial garrison.

There is no counter-attack possible. The RAF and Armee de L'Air get shot up for no purpose and the odds of any land attack are not even worth contemplating.

The remnants of the BEF head for the coast but there are no French units to block their retreat with.

The brave Italians then attack in the south knowing the French are beaten. A truly classy act from a truly classy guy.....

Six tanks seems like overkill at this stage of the game (and now he'll have to rebuild one). This means fewer tech advances for the Jerries (early investments ensure that one can keep ahead of the tech curve for pretty much the entire game).

13 September 1940

No reinforcements for the Chinese this turn. There won't be any until November at the earliest.

The Chinese come under attack all along the line. However the attacks in the far north and Central China cause only light damage.

In the south as ever, the focus of Japanese attention is both Nanning and the corps to the north. together with probes towards Chungking/Kweichow.

All damage should be repairable, but I feel the need to bring 4th Army into the front line.

The French didn't surrender. Perhaps I should have delivered those aircraft....

The remaining British try and escape - the HQ is back in the UK but the BEF remains in France. The Italians push into France.

I say YES to this, but I don't think its much of a decision to be made.

I'm not really feeling the naval game at the moment. I've no idea what is going on - only that I have a load of units spread all over the place. I feel disaster is about to strike in the desert but not idea how to stop it. I'll have a think about this.

I say NO to attacking the French Fleet and no to attacking Dakar.

Things take a distinct turn for the worse in China with the loss of 4th Army....

I am not sure why that one was so easy, I thought terrain, supply and a limited number of attacking units would have saved the army but.....
