malkarma -> Possible bug with Vichi NA Creation (12/23/2020 6:43:10 PM)

In a PBEM gam that Im playing my opponent choosed to garrison Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia with UK units...thatīs ok for me, actually I do't mind.
However, after the Fall of France, only Mainland and Syria Vichy were created. By some wird reason Vichi NA stayed under German control, so obviously the Uk units remained there in the ports in which they were deployed. This ended in the UK controlling all those ports without the need to disembark.

Is this a bug and Vichi NA should have been created or this is working as intended?

Also it seems that Corsica is under German control when it should be Vichi territory.

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Possible bug with Vichi NA Creation (12/26/2020 2:45:56 PM)

That is odd. They should have been removed. Is his version up to date?

I assume it has been 2 turns at least and no Vichy N.A.

malkarma -> RE: Possible bug with Vichi NA Creation (12/26/2020 4:39:38 PM)

Exactly. I have screenshots of the turn after France surreder, I you need them.

kennonlightfoot -> RE: Possible bug with Vichi NA Creation (12/26/2020 4:45:25 PM)

We are both using the latest version. The uniqueness of the situation which probably triggered the odd result was that I had (mistakenly) left the British divisions that replaced the French units in the ports. I had intended to move them to the Egypt on the turn France is overrun but for some reason I was thinking I would receive a warning during my turn if France was going to surrender which the Allies don't get. I had done the same thing in Syria.

France of course surrender with three VP cities (including Paris taken).
Vichy Syria worked correctly. My two units in Syrian ports were moved into Palestine and Vichy Syria formed.
North Africa though didn't work. The one French HQ I had left there disappeared but all the previously occupied ports (but now with UK units) remained occupied by UK units.
All of N. Africa outside of those garrisoned ports were flagged as German controlled. So I had to run around converting rail lines into UK controlled by moving through them on my turn.

It is definitely a bug. It probably hasn't shown up because most of the time the Allies would have removed the units by sea to safe locations and N. Africa would be either without garrisons or still have French garrisons.

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Possible bug with Vichi NA Creation (12/28/2020 3:51:47 PM)

Something is off on your end. I just did did a test. I put a unit in the capitals of Syria and Algiers, did the surrender and it works correctly removing the UK units.

PBEM should not be different.

I will setup a 1940 scenario PBEM as the Axis with the password "test". Move all Allied units out of the way and I will get into position to declare vichy when you have UK units in the capitals of the VF colonies. I will need you to post the error logs.

The last message was intended to me or to kennonlightfoot?

I think the message was directed to you malkarma. You have reported the issue.

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Possible bug with Vichi NA Creation (12/30/2020 1:01:39 AM)

Seems to have worked in the tests. I got the turn back all UK units gone all Vichy there.

kennonlightfoot -> RE: Possible bug with Vichi NA Creation (1/1/2021 8:19:20 PM)

I had no problem reproducing the failed N. Africa creation.

For test I replaced all French units in the colonies that are at ports with British divisions in garrison mode.
I left one French HQ on the fort hex in Tunisia because it wasn't a port and I didn't want my UK unit trapped there.

1. Jun 21 - Gr take Paris reaching the 41 morale level for France to cause it to surrender.
2. Jun 21 Allied - Allies see notice that Fr will surrender. At this point I meant to withdraw all UK forces from future Vichy but I missed the message in the PBEM game and didn't. So I leave everyone in place.
3. Jul 5 Gr - Germany accepts the French Surrender and all French units disappear.
4. Jul 5 Allied - Messages say France surrendered and Vichy France is formed.
Messages say Vichy Syria is formed and stays loyal to Vichy.
Messages don't mention N. Africa.

There is no Vichy North Africa.
All the UK divisions in N. Africa ports remain in place.
All hexes outside of those ports are marked German.
UK units in now Vichy Syria are removed and placed in Palestine.

I saved the log files but they don't show anything unusual if you want them.
I also saved each turn before and after Paris falls and after France surrenders.

Here is a screen shot of Allied situation on Jul 5 turn.

ncc1701e -> RE: Possible bug with Vichi NA Creation (1/1/2021 8:47:09 PM)

Why not have a message saying that the Vichy French troops are capturing all the UK units in N.A. and Syria following the French surrender?

This way all the UK units are removed definitely from the game.
The Vichy units are placed in the ports instead.

And this strategy won't work anymore.

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Possible bug with Vichi NA Creation (1/1/2021 9:47:06 PM)

This was tested there is nothing wrong with it. Hotseat check, PBEM check.

kennonlightfoot -> RE: Possible bug with Vichi NA Creation (1/2/2021 3:15:07 PM)

So far I haven't had any problem recreating the situation under 9.1 version. Have you tested it with all the French units in ports being replaced with UK units? I leave one French unit (a HQ) in the fort hex that isn't a port. This combination seems to trigger N. Africa not forming Vichy. I haven't tested what the minimum force needed to have it happen.

kennonlightfoot -> RE: Possible bug with Vichi NA Creation (1/2/2021 3:45:26 PM)

Couple of more tests.

Reduced the number of UK units to just in Algeria and Tunisia ports. Still got the error.

Replaced all the UK units with French units. Finally worked giving me the message:
"Morocco, Tunisia, and Algeria stay loyal to Vichy France"
And the War panel now shows "Vichy North Africa"

Whatever is triggering the error must be occurring much earlier in the game. It is not just having UK units there, unless someone else can reproduce the problem using just UK units in Africa.

It isn't like a corrupt scenario file since we originally got it on a PBEM game started by Malkarma and I was able to reproduce it on a hot seat game I had made a week earlier.

If no one else sees this problem, then it could be some kind of corruption to my game install. I'll probably make a clean reinstall the game before I start any knew PBEM's just in case.

stjeand -> RE: Possible bug with Vichi NA Creation (1/21/2021 5:31:16 PM)

I was able to reproduce this also...
It seems that with the UK units in those locations it appears the territory becomes fully German rather than creating Vichy. All the other hexes in Vichy NA state they are controlled by Germany.
In the War Panel I see Vichy France and Vichy Syria...but no Vichy NA...looks like it just became fully Axis other than the 2 ports the UK is holding.

Alvaro...could two triggers be kicking off?
One saying make Vichy NA but the other saying look the UK has units there so become an Axis puppet.

Interestingly I am not able to make that territory "surrender"...they are just Axis fully controlled. UK would have to move through every hex to take control.

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Possible bug with Vichi NA Creation (1/21/2021 5:49:48 PM)

Is this beta or official version?

Tell you what recreate it in how you think it is broken and send me the save game. JUST BEFORE end of turn where it happens.
