Xywa -> 7=1200 Vs. 10=700 but what's the matter? (12/25/2020 7:10:06 AM)

I have to describe it as I not allowed to put links to the screenshot on the forum.

Got 3 recon units next to 3 Slavers units.

On the map I could see there are: 7 size battalion infantry and 10 size battalion infantry.

When I click on them to see details I see:
7 size unit contain 1200 Slavers
10 size unit contain 700 Slavers

People on Steam say it's the fault of the weak recon, but shouldn't it be that the 2 values should be the same? 7=700, 10=1000? Let us assume that in a situation that I have a weak but not hopeless recon and I can, for example, be wrong by 200 units, then for 7 = 700, there may be something between 5 = 500 and 9 = 900.

If you played my game, which unit would have more Slavers according to you?
7 size on map (1200 Slavers) Vs. 10 size on map (700 Slavers).

What are "recon untis"?
How much recon did you have on the hex?
What terain was the Hex (can increasse minimum Recon needed)?

My impression is that all the specifically listed subunits are real, and that the listed ones start initially spotted in combat (attacks against unspotted subunits are penalized). If that's the case and the estimated overall unit size can be lower than the number of actually spotted units, I would agree that is in fact silly.

My question does not concern recon, it concerns - whether there is a difference between what is on the main map and what is in the detailed description - because it seems that there are two different matters, mathematically related in some way.

Example: My own unit (so recon is 100% sure)
5th MG Infantry Battalion
On the map its icon got "general power" = 6.
Detailed info says: 400x GI's + 100x AXI MG + 100 AXI MG
Lets count: 400 + 100 + 100 = 600, and manual says (full info in quote below)
So 600 infantry = 6
quote:

3.4.4. Units
Your Units are your military force. They are represented by counters on the
map. You can have up to 16 Units on a single Hex. If there is more than 1
Unit present they’ll be stacked.
***
The number signifies the number of Troops the Unit has. 1 point signifies
either 100 infantry or 10 tanks/vehicles or guns.

My real question is, is there any modifer that could change this simple math (600 infantry = 6) in some way?
So this 600 infantry could give on general map eg. 5 or 8?

You do get +40 Recon per combat turn. If that happens before firing the shot for that round, you could get more visible units then you can see on the strategic level - at the cost of you needing to commit to a assault.

Yepyep later on it's worth it to throw away some militia in a suicidal attack to make your Artillery/Rocket/Missile strike tremendously more effective.

My impression is that there are basically two different recon rolls that get applied to enemy units: One for the overall troop number and one for the detailed breakdown of units and unit types. Now, which one is more accurate? I don't know.

It does not mater wich one is more accurate. Neither is accurate enough if you do not got enough Recon on that hex.
Either one is capable of missing a few thousand soldiers in that hex.
