Dr_Talon -> Problem with Yugoslavia: 1941-1945? (12/26/2020 12:40:04 AM)

I used to love playing Yugoslavia: 1941-1945 on TAOW III, and have tried to do so again in TOAW IV. It is a guerilla-heavy scenario. However, around turn 23 or so, when playing as Yugoslavia and Uzice is lost, every unit of mine loses supply, including guerillas. I thought that guerillas were always supplied at least "normal".

Is this a bug, or is there an explanation? I would greatly enjoy playing this scenario again, if my combat power was not wrecked by this.

I had started playing this one to see how far I could get towards capturing Uzice [99,68] before I lost interest and set up a test scenario. Well, I captured Uzice a couple turns ago and did not notice anything suspicious. However, last turn I also captured Sarajevo and now I do notice some G units that are not surrounded but are in the black. Also however though, surrounded 'I' units lose equipment as expected, while surrounded G units don't seem to be losing any eqp. For example, notice the G unit that has been surrounded for several turns is still at the same strength as the supplied G unit.

I checked the G's supply sources, all of them are enemy [me] occupied. There are a few that are in Exclusion Zones, and I am not using New Supply, which means that Supply is not traced thru Excluded Hexes [I think]. Scrolling around and checking the other sides units I see that all the Regular units are out of supply, which I would expect, but as seen in the above screen shot, there are some G units in supply. I will continue to play for a while to see if there are any more clues, but it's probably time to create a test scenario [:)]

Switch to playing with the New Supply rules and test it out.

Personally we all should be using the new supply rules.

sPzAbt653 -> RE: Problem with Yugoslavia: 1941-1945? (12/26/2020 2:57:32 PM)

[:-]Never use New Supply unless the Scenario Briefing recommends using it, lol.

But I'll switch for a couple turns and see what happens [:)]

sPzAbt653 -> RE: Problem with Yugoslavia: 1941-1945? (12/26/2020 8:11:27 PM)

Ok, testing testing 1 2 3 ...

I switched to New Supply and let it run several turns and did not notice any difference.

The reason I say don't use New Supply unless told to do so in the Briefing is that Scenarios are usually designed for specific Supply Levels, and by using the wrong Supply Rules you will be getting the wrong supply.

Setting up a Test Scenario using 3.4.19, we see that the Blue G Unit goes to 'Unsupplied' in the Unit Report, but retains it's Green Indicator. I ran the test for 10 turns and nothing changed except the Unit Supply Level, which seems to have increased by 1 each turn [the minimum when taking no action]. The Unit neither gained nor lost any equipment.

TOAW 3.4.19:

sPzAbt653 -> RE: Problem with Yugoslavia: 1941-1945? (12/26/2020 8:20:53 PM)

The same scenario is now run with 4.1.0.32 and basically the same results. One difference is the graphics. I use a Red Outlined Indicator for Out of Supply [actually I think that is for Overextended, I think I use the regular Black Box for Unsupplied]. Either way, it seems that in III the unit will retain it's 'Supplied' Indicator, while in IV it will not.

The other difference is that the Unit quickly went to Maximum Supply, as opposed to III only giving 1 per turn. This I would think is an issue that need to be looked at in the program.

@ semi-anonymous online - I don't know exactly what situations you are encountering that are giving you results that are of concern, but maybe the tests run above can help you identify what is going on. Remember, you won't see that Red Indicator [unless you dl'd and installed it]. Let us know what you think, thanks [:)]

I was a little shocked that you used my real name. I didn’t know that it was public. I fixed that. I like to be semi-anonymous online, and don’t want that compromised. Can you edit that out, please?

In any case, I have a teal indicator showing that I am unsupplied, and my men do desert in large numbers. Perhaps I’ll have to post some screenshots.

Dr_Talon -> RE: Problem with Yugoslavia: 1941-1945? (12/29/2020 3:42:10 AM)

I will have better and more detailed photos later. However, as you can see, every unit has a teal color saying that it is unsupplied. This is turn 23, immediately after Uzice is taken. I let the game autorun to turn 28. My irregulars are utterly decimated by the lack of supply, often having 1 squad in a category. I cannot speak about the guerillas, because I paid no attention to the game and don't know if the losses among them were combat related or not.

You need to get closer to a Friendly Supply Point, you are operating too far away and aren't getting any Supply. If you don't own a Friendly Supply Point you need to re-capture one. Here are their locations:
111,46 (BEOGRAD).
101,38 (Novi Sad).
84,28 (Osijek).
41,27 (Zagreb).
80,68 (Sarajevo).

This is my Axis Supply Grid. Compare it to yours, you have nothing [:(]

Dr_Talon -> RE: Problem with Yugoslavia: 1941-1945? (12/29/2020 11:30:09 PM)

But how can my guerrilla units be unsupplied? I thought that they always draw normal supply.

sPzAbt653 -> RE: Problem with Yugoslavia: 1941-1945? (12/30/2020 5:18:47 AM)

Your Normal Supply is ZERO [;)]

I thought that guerilla units were almost never unsupplied. I thought that they always had a baseline minimum of supplies drawn per turn.

sPzAbt653 -> RE: Problem with Yugoslavia: 1941-1945? (12/30/2020 2:34:17 PM)

Probably if you do no actions the unit will get 1 [as seen in an early post above]. As long as you are moving and attacking you will be suffering Attrition and Combat Losses which won't be replaced.
