Turbo624 -> British Night Bombing - HELP! (12/27/2020 11:22:43 PM)

The bombers launch ok at the scheduled time but don't do any damage on the targets. They seem to drop bombs but never damage anything. Is there a tip or trick to using the night bombers? I've been using them over france in 1943 and frankly they seem worthless.

Thanks in advance for your kind answers!

Did you recon the targets first?

Why are you bombing France? Leave it for the 8th if you do not wish to daylight bomb Germany without escorts or use your mediums.

BC is your weapon of choice in 43. They have range and they have clout. Use it.

BC and the day bombers seem to record damage differently.
When a day group bombs it will show you target damage in a pop up box if it hits. BC pop up says you are in the area of the target. As WSB says, get up to date recons and check the campaign screen to see if the total damage points are moving up or down. It's still very hard for BC to pinpoint factories at night, best to use them as city busters this early in the game.

Yes, night bombing is mainly for area targeting and terror points. I like turning on urban areas during a night raid and watching the target pixel city burn. Even with the simple graphics it's a satisfying experience.

A few things I've learned.
1) You'll need to run recon on your BC targets the next day to actually see if you've done damage.
2) Once they have some experience you can actually attack industrial targets with a fair amount of success. This can let you hit high-value targets in the early game that your daylight raids can't hit without horrendous casualties.
3) If industrial targets are within a city circle, you can bomb them, and hit areas of the city you might not otherwise, garnering you additional terror points.

"Creepback" was actually factored into raid planning by Bomber Command in the later years of the war, Sag.

I know, it's great they actually take that into account. That level of detail is one of the reasons I've loved this game for almost twenty years.

Simovitch,

I'm only on Turn 50 or so of the monster game: will I see 3 Group being able to mount daylight Gee-H raids in '44?

Johntxic, Bomber Command can only plan night raids. Same with 205 Group in the med.

But you can certainly swap out the level bombers of the 8thAF with night bombers to create daylight bombing groups with the Lancaster, Halifax etc.
