MorningDew -> Warning that a nation is about to surrender (12/30/2020 8:33:34 PM)

Request that the messages include a warning that a nation is about to surrender.

Didn't realize enough had been taken in France and have the lone German unit in Paris surrounded. Got my lines reformed, and ended the turn, only to get the message at that point - when what I should have been doing is have the British retreat towards ports.

With a warning at the start of the turn, I would have either gone all out to retake Paris or retreated the British.

--------

One a different note - if the French survive past 1940, should their surrender get harder?

There is a message that comes up in the reports about France wanting to negotiate a surrender. You have 1 turn to take a city back or haul your butt out of Dodge City

Well, that means I missed it.

Oh this is Christmas. LOL.

But, your 'all in' strategy to send all UK production points to France to build the west wall has worked nicely. Plus the fact I am not very good in my choices.

The date is May 23rd, 1941.

I just ran a test - started a new 1939 scenario and had the French retreat and allow Lille, Rouen and Paris fall.

On the Allied turn after all three fell, there was NO warning that surrender was imminent. Just that Paris was taken.

My request was a warning that a nation was about to surrender. (Glad I didn't miss the message:)) In fact, I think it is such an important moment in the game for both France and Italy that it warrants an icon warning (such as with low supply, low manpower etc).

Confirmed that next German turn surrender was possible.

I didn't send all UK production to France - just about 15 points and some oil.

Just to make sure my post two above wasn't missed because of my next post, there is NOT a message warning a player they are about to surrender.

Well, when I have seen the ocean of French units in front of me, that was my initial feeling. The "ant tactic" is back. [:D]

You are right, the message is too late. A warning would be nice.

Half a year ago the message appeared in īturn reportī the turn before the surrender, but this was lost in some update and now it appears a turn later.

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Warning that a nation is about to surrender (12/31/2020 1:18:17 PM)

It appears the turn after the selected areas are taken to allow a negotiated surrender. So if the Germans end the turn with enough locations the message appears on the Allied player turn once they get their PBEM game up in the reports.

MorningDew -> RE: Warning that a nation is about to surrender (12/31/2020 1:25:18 PM)

My suggestion is to warn the allies (and Axis in the case of Italy) in a message and icon that there are parties ready to negotiate surrender on the turn in which they need to retake a city. Provide a warning that it is this turn or they are likely out of the war.

Another option would be to light up the war panel if it is at risk.

But something to pull attention to the fact that something important is happening - like so many of your other UI features.

stjeand -> RE: Warning that a nation is about to surrender (1/11/2021 7:20:23 PM)

Well Italy is pretty easy to know. You enter Paris they join. Not sure I would need a message.

As for the Allies...did the French tell them they were negotiating Vichy?
I don't think they did.
From what I read the British said fight fight fight...and the French PM resigned because he could not convince his cabinet to continue fighting...a week later they signed the armistice.

Not much notice for the UK to get out.

Some things make the game more fun. You want to heavily defend France you better be ready for them to bail.

squatter -> RE: Warning that a nation is about to surrender (1/11/2021 8:29:46 PM)

I agree with OP here.

The game doesn't warn new players properly that France is about to fall. Only experience lets you predict it properly. Which is unfair on new players.

On this note, the game doesn't communicate very well what it takes for a country to surrender on either side.

If you are Axis, and you want to know what it takes before Italy surrenders, you look at the War Panel and you see Italy morale 63. I can't even see a breakpoint number, which I assume should be there?

As a new player that is meaningless - you basically have no clear idea what conditions will trigger surrender.

Its only after several posts on the forum, and lots of bitter experience/testing that you get the hang of it, which is really frustrating for someone new to the game.

For me, perhaps Warplan's biggest issue is player feedback.
