Sardaukar -> Sardaukar figuring out orders for turn (1/5/2021 2:35:54 PM)

I thought i'd share the way how I stay organized and make fast turns (vs AI..PBEM might have additional concerns)

Sardaukar's checklist for Allies:

You are now in PH:

- check ship repair
- check immediate need for forming TFs
- check air units and adjust orders
- check naval as above

Press O and see messages that might need action:

- withdrawals
- arrivals
- build levels of bases

Sub patrols:

- press S and filter with Subs, filter with damage
- return subs to base with lot of damage (AI is quite cavalier with that, cripples will auto-return)
- plan sub patrols (patrol around target is your friend)

Supply:

- tankers to ship fuel
- supply TFs

This is really a game of logistics and you'll regret missing that aspect.

Rest I go counter-clockwise:

North Pacific:

- bit of sideshow
- I like to build Adak as sub base

Canada & West Coast (inc. Panama):

- I stage troop transports mainly from SF
- fuel transports from LA

With fuel to Australia, NZ Auckland is good place to use. It is far from IJ air threat. Ozzies love fuel in this game...and vegemite in real life.. [:D]

- check shipyards and air groups to put into training (you can use air groups you do not need here for pilot training, don't forget CVEs later or float planes)

- ship supply and fuel
- transfer planes, ship troops

CentPac:

- supply, planes, troops (mostly not urgent)

South/SWPac/AUS

- roll with the punches and decide where you are strong
- build/repair bases
- AUS is unsinkable carrier, send air units from US, troops too

DEI:

- air units
- land units
- pray for gods of war[:D]

SE Asia:

- save what you can
- don't send units to failure
- how about saving India and Ceylon

Great list.

One thing bothers me though. How do keep track of LCUs arriving at destinations?

Kind of having to remember.

No easy way around that, unless combat.

Not the first or 3rd campaign when forgetting units sent somewhere.

Thus it is beneficial to send units prepped to target and to certain gathering points.

Sardaukar -> RE: Sardaukar figuring out orders for turn (1/5/2021 2:59:09 PM)

I use preparation for units I want to send somewhere as quick reminder in backwaters.

Yaab -> RE: Sardaukar figuring out orders for turn (1/5/2021 3:12:17 PM)

I can't use prep points as a guide. My Chinese units retain use the default prep (to reach 100 prep to train to national exp limit) and move an awful lot in the beginning.

I have a method, but it is cumbersome.

I load turn intro Tracker, go to Alerts, leave only LCUs unchecked. You can highlight all LCUs that reach destination. The highlighted part can be copied by CTRL-C. I paste it into Open Office, creating a table, and then eliminate those LCUs who really finished movements, and leave those who need a followup action(training, digging someting specfic, waiting to be bought out) and add a not to myself in the table. Otherwise, I get lost after a few starting turns.

I was hoping you had some super easy way to do the same.

Notepad is your friend. Especially if you have several games going on, or even several big operations in the plans in one game.

For example, if you’re in January ‘43 and want to invade the Mariana’s in force, you create such a section in your notepad :

quote:

Opération Bighammer
Target : Saipan/Tinian/Guam ——— Scheduled : April ‘43
Bighammer 1 (Saipan)
Units : 1st MarDiv (PH), 2nd USMC Tank Bn (Eastern USA), 147th FA Bn (Seattle, 155mm)
More to assign : 1 infantry div, 4 art bn
2nd wave : 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th Seabees (PH), 1st Eng Bde (Tarawa), 97th Cst AA (Hilo)
4 xAK sent to Seattle to load art bn
2nd USMC on strat move to SF (ETA 41/01/19)

(Etc)

That way, you keep track of the units assigned, and keep a view of the succession of operations - and of the movements of units, and where you send them.

To be safe, you could also keep a list of all your units and toggle them as available/earmarked/refitting as you see fit.

And the closer you come to an operation, the more details you add, until you launch it. And then, you keep a closer track of all movements.

Ambassador, I guess I need an orderly. From gaming to staff work.

Thanks anyway.

RangerJoe -> RE: Sardaukar figuring out orders for turn (1/5/2021 3:36:34 PM)

You can, once the troops are loaded, add a description to the TF.

As far as units getting to an enemy base, if you forget about them the AI will not.[:@]

Sardaukar -> RE: Sardaukar figuring out orders for turn (1/5/2021 5:15:01 PM)

It is to be organized, other will vary.

[:D]

And to bring you your beverages [sm=00000436.gif] and a sandwich. [;)]

You need to recruit a child.[:D]

Sardaukar -> RE: Sardaukar figuring out orders for turn (1/6/2021 5:07:39 AM)

Anyone playing this have multiple personalities--- [:D]

Sardaukar -> RE: Sardaukar figuring out orders for turn (1/6/2021 5:08:37 AM)

But, it is not so hard when you get to the routine.

Sardaukar -> RE: Sardaukar figuring out orders for turn (1/6/2021 1:06:44 PM)

To add, vs. AI I van make a turn in 15-20 mins. more complicated turns take up to 2 hours.

When making amphibious assault, it is definitely good to have a routine.

Against human I'd revert to my habit to have "floating reserve", but then, I tend to "bring everyone".

My axiom is.."if it's worth invading, it's worth invading with a lot". Overkill is a good kill.

RangerJoe -> RE: Sardaukar figuring out orders for turn (1/6/2021 2:49:40 PM)

Why use a little hammer if you can use a big one? [:D] If you want to open a nut, then use a sledgehammer. [sm=00000028.gif] If you want to eat the nutmeat, then either use a nutcracker or buy them already shelled. [;)]

Ambassador -> RE: Sardaukar figuring out orders for turn (1/6/2021 6:03:39 PM)

Overkill is standard operating procedure in my books.[:D]

Sardaukar -> RE: Sardaukar figuring out orders for turn (1/7/2021 2:26:37 AM)

To add, I have been in habit to getting some Canucks into battle too. Bought out 2 Bn and a brigade.

I thought they'd like some sunshine in Pacific too.

PaxMondo -> RE: Sardaukar figuring out orders for turn (1/7/2021 2:44:53 AM)

Tracker gives LCU arrivals ... one of the biggest reasons I use it ....

Sardaukar -> RE: Sardaukar figuring out orders for turn (1/7/2021 2:45:57 AM)

Game does it too. [8D]

PaxMondo -> RE: Sardaukar figuring out orders for turn (1/7/2021 3:15:33 AM)

it does, but tracker allows you to pull them together. Or you can put the Ops report into excel and sort there. either way. I use tracker for the rest of it, but this is my first step every turn: go through every LCU that arrived at its destination and be sure to update their orders.
