Hi WITPAErs,

Upon reading recently a World at War magazine article on the battle for Sumatra in WWII, I remember reading that “the Sumatra-based oil refineries produced around 75% of the Japanese Av Gas during the conflict”.

Does anyone know if that’s replicated by the game mechanics, meaning, if I put down Palembang and the other refineries in Sumatra by B24 bombers, will that have a hard consequence on the Japanese air mobility capability?

There's no av gas in the game. If you take out the refineries you deny the enemy from fuel which is used to fuel your ships and heavy industry. HI then produces supply, which is needed for flying aircraft. So avgas is abstracted in supply.

Simply put - if Japan is denied the oil produced at Palembang by any means (Palembang fortress, bombing, or early recapture) the empire will run out of fuel within 18 months (if not sooner) and its war effort will grind to a halt, making life much easier for the Allied juggernaut.

So, to fully answer the OP question: no it is not DIRECTLY modeled. however, UE's answer you can see that indirectly it is adequately built into the stock game.

There are a number of options for modders to increase this, but most of those involve some form of "outboard" bookkeeping.
