When I select this unit, I can see this is a large formation (assuming an unit of 30 steps).

When I select this unit, I can see this is a small formation (assuming an unit of 20 steps).

Now, how do I tell if this unit, on which I have better reconnaissance information, is a large or a small corps?
There is no indication.

You have the absolute value of the strength in this case of the last slide.

ncc1701e -> RE: Reconnaissance report (1/17/2021 2:52:54 PM)

Yes but is it telling me if it is a small or a large formation? I am not sure to understand.

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Reconnaissance report (1/17/2021 4:26:56 PM)

In the front line you get the exact strength and know exactly what you need to attack it. That is very accurate information
the 2nd ID level is knowing the size of the formation and the name
the 3rd is knowing the about the size of the formation but not the strength or the name.
the 4th is just an unknown marker

I don't see the issue.

Nirosi -> RE: Reconnaissance report (1/17/2021 5:41:10 PM)

If I may, I am wondering what it represents :

A division is obviously a small formation and a large corps a large formation. But what about a small corps? I would guess that is still count as a large formation as it is still a corps (and closer to a large corps combat wise)?

Turn your display settings to show how many steps your units have. I like that setting better anyway. Anyway I would guess from the 5 that it is a 20 and the one to the Southeast that is a 6 is actually a 30. With the other display settings for land units it will actually show 20 or 30. Strength and operations points I think is what the setting is called.

Small is division type or HQ

Thanks!

I think I see the issue with this - unless I am wrong, the 2nd ID level tells you the name of the unit, but not its size. If the unit is mech/armour, then that's fine because you know what it is.

But with INF, this 2ND level of ID can be less informative than the 3RD. This is because when you combine INF divisions into a corps the resulting 30 strength corps takes the name of one of the divisions, often resulting in a corps called something like 'UK division', knowing the name of a unit does not tell you the size of a unit.

Thus the 3RD level of unit ID when it comes to INF units is more informative than the 2ND.

Surely the 2ND level of ID should tell you not just the name, but also the size of the unit?

And even then, one can change the names of such units. So yes, I believe that all info on a level should also be written on the next level on top of the extra info for that next level.

One cannot change the icon of such units. So we know if this is a mechanized or an armored unit.

Nirosi -> RE: Reconnaissance report (2/14/2021 2:40:36 PM)

Oups! Yes we do see the icons at the high level! Silly me! Please ignore my previous post about the names...

No worries. [:)]
