No longer need to be brave to eat it, but still prefer Lindt or Cadburys. My weakness as child was butter; could just eat it plain in those single serve sticks or sample pats. [:D]

English farmer's daughter, taught culinary skills from childhood by her mother. Not many men can truthfully say their wife is a better cook than their mother, but I can. I almost never do anything in the kitchen, except warm something up and wash dishes. Shortbread? She makes it around Christmas every year using a recipe from the Royal Household. Makes desserts like profiteroles enrobed in home made chocolate sauce, lemon parfaits and many other goodies. Homemade Yorkshire puddings, toad-in-the-hole, specialty roasted mini potatoes, stoneware roasted chicken, pork loins, etc. I could go on all day. I'm a lucky dog to have her.

Shortbread sounds fun mine was from a woman from London who was evacuated during the Blitz to a Scottish farm where she got the recipe. Mmm pasties, Cock-a-leekie soup, Anglesey Eggs, Bangers and Mash, Irish Stew, Wassail, plumb pudding, Welsh Rarebit, etc. I tend to make the English or other ethnic dishes (Italian, Thai, Vietnamese), she is an American and pretty much makes the rest; foods sound familiar. I also can say the same and my mother was quite the cook. Only problem is trying to keep off the weight with such good food, biscuits, pastries about. Could go on all day about both the variety and fabulous taste, and I do somewhat with her. Her mac cheese is something else. I am okay with mac cheese but it is more of a comfort food not a destination food. Somehow she manages to make it into a meal you would order at a fine Italian Restaurant. I have seen Yorkshire pudding at stores but as it is so easy to make I do not know why one would pay for someone to measure the eggs (powdered at that), flour for you to add milk. Can not imagine it tasting that good. Come now not in the kitchen. Does she fetch all your tea as well! If so I am jealous. I am rather particular about my tea, both in preparation and type, but at 15 or more cups a day it would be nice to have someone keeping a constant supply on hand. My son and I used to work as a team but he had to go and grow up and leave.

Careful with that tea, it contains oxalates which can cause kidney stones and clog things up. The acetic acid in vinegar helps clear them out. I passes a 9mm kidney stone once . . . [:D][:D] Very little discomfort!

Or at least one or more of the 20 some different leaf varieties in it would. Could easily be but am not aware if British have more kidney stones than other peoples who drink less tea. At least in my day about 14 cups was pretty average.

My stepmother used to run a school lunchroom where the children *wanted* to eat the school lunch! Nothing pre-made but from scratch. If the children ate everything on their plate, they could get up to six slices of bread and gravy, two slices at a time. She only went through five gallons of gravy a day. Even if you are not "master" in the kitchen, if you try, make something decent and especially don't leave a mess, that should be appreciated. Besides, if she becomes ill then she knows that you can provide for yourself![;)]

�If you don�t eat your meat, you can�t have any pudding� It was sad. I did some lessons at an elementary school in the US and made the mistake of complimenting the cooking at of one of the schools. They all got the same ingredients one cook took the food and made it tasty the other schools the kids called it �lunch lady barf�. Foolish me thought that on an off chance they might ask what she was doing and maybe implement/share with the other schools. No, she was disciplined for making the other schools in the district look bad. By the Way Joe. I really like your Avatar.

Thank you. Roza Shanina, a northern Russian sniper who died in the war. Very brave and very young, dead at age 20. Yes, too much food now is premade, just warm it and serve. One cook at the assisted living place that I was at would cook everything at three hundred and fifty degrees for two hours - including the hockey pucks that started out as hamburger patties. My stepmother would make things like homemade pizza and caramel rolls. When she made caramels rolls at home, she doubled the recipe. She only used six and a half to seven cups of flour for a single recipe - now double that! [:D]

I've got some base force and engineers unloading now at Lunga. It is quite difficult getting them loaded up at Luganville with the small port there. The Guadalcanal scenario starts off with a huge fleet loaded there "in dock" which cannot be replicated after undocking them. It has cost me to get those men ashore. Lost a DD, and an xAK or something, Gramium or something like that name, is heavily damaged and trying to make land at Lunga. Stupid TF commander headed for open waters and the Bettys got them. I had some carrier Wildcats nearby, so it cost them: 13 shot down by fighters, 1 taken down by flak, 2 damaged. I hope I won't be hearing from Aunty Betty for a while. Back at Luganville I am loading up some engineers to go to Tulagi. I had a supply ship docked there, but after a turn, no unloading. What a dumbass I am. Next turn I checked the port, damage in the red at 90. I sent the ship next door to unload at Luganville. Lesson learned: read the fine print. I now realize the only supply they will get will be the automatic trickle from Lunga plus whatever I can bring in via amphibious supply, which is next on the list. My heart jumped into my throat: Lexington got a torpedo hit from a sub, but lucky stars it did not detonate. My escorts pounded the sub, 7 hits which I hope means it drops to the seabed in one last dive. Over at Tulagi, earlier, the ASW had some fun. Forced a mini sub to the surface and a cruiser and North Carolina worked it over and turned it into confetti. I'm still making mistakes, but I am learning from them. This scenario is a good sandbox for learning the game.

Believe it or not, you can put a commercial load (100%) on an AK type and put it into an amphibious TF if it is loaded only with supplies. [:D]

I have seen I-boats take over 30 minor hits and survive. But if you get about 5 penetrating hits it should be toast. This is one of those moments when you need to listen on the earphones at the end of combat for sinking sounds. That will often confirm a sinking even if the Combat Report is vague about it. But if the ASW combat is the last action in a naval phase, the sinking sounds could be from another combat during that phase.

In my exp 7 hits will generally put down a sub. Beware the Betties....if you are playing on 'hard' the IJN seems to never run out of them. Irish stew - tasty. My Mom always overcooked everything - and still does. I like my food more on the firm side. When I was still flying for work BA used to have a tasty bacon buddy for breakfast. Sadly that was the only good part of their service (other than getting you there still with the ability to stand). I am now craving stew, with snow on the way that is not going to happen.

Don�t wait to start a grand campaign for that, check what consequences some damage messages have, looking at the various sys/flot/eng damage (minor/major).

I get up on stage with an electric drill with a large drill bit in it and drill a big hole through my right boot where the big toe is! Think if a glowing, green liquid came out and I say "No pain, no pain at all!" Then lift my boot and push a rod right through the hole! If I could get that on recorded, I would post it for Zorch to enjoy! Note: I have not done that - yet!

I have to be sober due to medical issues. Then again, I do [sm=00000436.gif][sm=00000436.gif] Then again, people in the largest metropolitan area nearby claim that we drink a lot here but we actually drink a lot anywhere. At one time, my hometown actually had a higher per captia consumption of beer than Germany but I don't know if it was as strong as German bier.

Re: Guadalcanal, Until I played this campaign, I never knew Japanese midget subs were involved at Guadalcanal. Its not mentioned at all in most histories. Some good info about them at combinedfleet site "Midget Submarines in the Solomons 1942"

They are a real PITA. Once in a while they hit something, and even if they do not, they force you to expend your ASW ordnance. However, you seem to have a much higher chance of hurting or killing them in those shallow waters. I've had two forced to surface, which then became gunnery targets for North Carolina, Minneapolis and Vincennes. [:D]
