Matt Erickson -> Ijn Asw (8/18/2003 7:36:02 AM)

Ok just started pbeming again been away for awhile any way his subs just seem to roam at will and I mean I am seriously hunting them with experienced large destroyers groups a couple of depth charges but no hits....my question can I expect a rather significant increase in experience say from 74 to the 80's? if I keep them pegged on his subs?...if you don'y like my tactics well....:p

I have had a number of subs pegged by IJN ASW during my PBEM games.

If the IJN escorts were not "reduced" in effectiveness, I would have no subs. (and I do not loiter around in ports. Most are open ocean attacks)

Well that is where he is loitering got like 8 destroyers on them looking for better results next turn.

Sounds like you are doing it correctly. Experience will of course help their chances. In my game versus Herbie his ASW - in all forms - has sunk 6 of my subs and 4 others damaged.
This includes hits by PGs, a PC, even air interdiction! Of course DDs also got into the mix and are your best options.

IJN subs and ASW seem to start off deadly and become less effective later.
The reverse seems true for allies.

Surface ships in conjunction with heavy air patrol do the job well.

Damien Thorn -> (8/18/2003 10:08:46 PM)

I read that they cut IJN ASW in half in one of the patches. Maybe they should reverse that decision because my IJN DDs never hit anything either.

Matt Erickson -> great I just lost an AA battalion to his subs. (8/19/2003 2:08:17 AM)

I'm throwing the kitchen sink at them bombers on asw all my float planes an dd's up the wazoo still nothing yet although I do seem to be driving them under the water more.This does not bode well for the future.
