BlinkingDuck -> First game Noob question - Supply movement (2/7/2021 10:23:40 PM)

I am playing my first game. As Allies on Hard. I know, I am likely to get my butt kicked but if a game on hard doesn't kick my butt the first time I tend to lose interest.

I want to say I treasure these first games. I just start, try hard and not reload even on dumb mistakes. It makes me feel like I am REALLY THERE at that point in history and dumb mistakes are part of learning...and you can't do over in real life.

So...The convoy from Hong Kong making a run for it...didn't make it. Poor bastards.

Anyways...

I want to move the supplies from Manila to Bataan and started trying the first day. The only way I could see is loading them onto merchants and shipping one hex over. It, well, isn't going well. Even though the fighter pilots in the Philippines did marvelous work...MARVELOUS shooting down many bombers and more than a few fighters, even Zeros, the transports are starting to evaporate like tequila on my desk. I don't think they will end up moving much.

Is there a way to do it overland?

I believe the land way from Manila to Bataan leads over Clark, do you still have it?
If yes, you can use the supply toggle to draw suppy to Bataan...

Another way (not efficient tho) is using subs to bring in supply, use the bigger US subs (w/MK14)as their torps have a high dud rate...(I did that when Clark was overrun finally by the IJA)

Probably too late though I still have it. I will look at it.

Yes, and it'll take too much time for me to explain it in detail(others should chime in), but in a nutshell...

Manila, will keep enough to maintain for its own needs. This will vary depending on activity and units at the base.

To draw supply overland use the 'supply spinner' (or so I call it) at Bataan to draw more supply to the base. Having more units at the base will draw more supply, especially HQ's.

There're some suggestions.

I see it! I thought that was just a way to 'oversuppy' the troops, like load them down with ammo or something and make them do better. Now it makes sense.

So many men and ships dead for incompetence. Just like reality ;)

You'll learn. Trust me I'll take forever with this 'time vampire'.[:D]

Remember that Command HQs will draw 25k supply to the base they are at. the USAFFE command HQ starts in Manila, so you need to move it to Bataan( Historical )

Also set the supply to stockpile at Bataan so that it does not flow back to Manila. Supply in excess of needs is programmed to accumulate in the largest nearby port. Setting the stockpile at Bataan will ensure that what is drawn there does not migrate to Manila just to sit there, but it does not prevent supply moving to units in the field that need it.

Actually, that is quite unlikely, even on hard. Hard makes it harder for you later, because supply appears out of thin air on islands you have cut off and pounded prior to invasion, and the IJN has more fuel for its capital ships, and things like that.

I suggest you let the AI go through its usual sequence and take these bases without fighting too hard/reinforcing:

1. Singapore
2. Manila
3. Clark Field
4. Bataan
5. Palembang
6. Batavia
7. Sorebaja
8. Rangoon
9. Mandalay
10. Rabaul
11. Port Blair
12. Tarawa
13. Shortlands
14. Lunga

Some also say that you should let it have Port Moresby & Akyab; up to you.

First, welcome !

And second, we usually recommend starting with smaller scenarios, as the full campaign is a bit long, and on a far larger scope, so there is such a delay between the decision and the consequences that you may fail to see the cause. Coral Sea, Guadalcanal, and possibly The Thousand Mile War (in that order), played from each side once, is the best sequence to learn all the mechanics of the game, as they bring different aspects of the game system progressively.

For the evacuees of Hong Kong, I usually find more success with multiple TF’s rather than one large convoy. At least, some of them manage to survive, but don’t worry too much : you’ll get much more ships later in the campaign.
