Ok, the news is nothing but Covid, boooooring.
And we won't discuss the other news.

So here is 22 minutes (which is only a few minutes in this case) explaining Canada for anyone that is not actually living in Canada.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdmMWqSf8gI

It is brutally accurate, but it's funny. And you have the word of a Canadian eh.

Come on guys, it's supposed to be a funny moment.

Those that can't appreciate good humour, well, you deserve to be miserable then :)

I offered the post in good faith, and I refuse to feel bad for offering it. Wreck it if you must, but the lock if it happens, is on YOUR head.

I will continue to be my cute funny self regardless.

MrsWargamer -> RE: Understanding my country eh (2/9/2021 4:19:45 PM)

Maybe I should stick to safe content. I suppose I could post a picture of me with a rifle and wearing a bikini in the Aussie Girls thread. After all, that's acceptable content here at Matrix :)

As we always have to chime in and say, no politics. Please avoid political discussion. Consider this a warning, and if you post politics in the future we will take action against your account

I am American but lived in Edmonton for several years.
What I remember most is the sunlight. It is softer and
gentler. It's like eating spicy food all your life
then suddenly switching to something bland. The
Canadian sunrises and sunsets unfold in slow motion.

All the food ingredient labels have a French section.
This awakened my childhood fascination with reading
ingredient labels. I would be eating cheap ramen
noodles but the "French" ingredients made it seem like
it was a Parisian delicacy. But, I never heard anyone
actually speaking French there.

I miss the Perogies, Donairs and Poutine.
Canadian women are very easy on the eyes.

For some reason, I remember seeing a lot of abandoned
shopping carts in odd places. Each one being
like a gravestone commemorateing the disintegration
of someone's life.

I'm with rico21. [8|]

I'm also tired of people injecting their politics into threads as much as I am tired of those who post political threads after we all were made aware of the guidelines here. [:-]

Perogies are just filled dumplings like pot stickers and raviolis. They should not be hard to make, just don't boil them too hard. You can make both regular meal type perogies or desert type perogies. They are ethnic Polish/Ukrainian peasant food.

Poutine, take frenched potatoes that then are fried, maybe fry them twice, put cheese turds on them then gravy.

Sarmas would go good with perogies.[:'(]

Yep, politics is annoying.
Humour is cool, but politics is annoying.
That's why I stick with humour.
I think my country is full of silly things to laugh at. And being from Quebec, this was entirely funny.
Take it away Celine :)

It was a funny moment, if you can't jest with yourself who can you jest with?

Right, my country is full of WTF qualities :) It's hard to take anyone seriously if they can't laugh at themselves.

Didn't know the name, Googled him. Hmm, seems like an interesting person, well after only 5 seconds of Wiki reading.

I flew from Sydney to L.A. in 1999 and was a bit surprised that there was almost no tourist information or help. Finally I found an elderly couple sitting at a card table with a few brochures. They were volunteers and said that if they didn't do it, there'd be nothing.

I had a lot of fun there though, including being invited to a pool party with a bunch of porn chicks, which was interesting [;)]. In general, I got the impression that it's a very "sink or swim" kind of place. Compared to Australia, there's very little public infrastructure. If you don't have a car, you're condemned to the appalling public transport system. There are no public toilets. You have to go to a bookshop and pretend to browse for a while and then ask for a token. I know not all of the U.S. is like that and I was prepared for it.

I flew from there to Calgary. Even though I arrived at about 8pm, there was someone there to greet tourists, they organised accommodation and drove me there. Calgary was spotlessly clean and the people very friendly. I was most impressed by Canada.

MrsWargamer -> RE: Understanding my country eh (2/10/2021 12:17:23 PM)

I'm not a fan of Alberta for some reasons, but the scenery, oh the scenery.

I've gone to Vancouver by train 3 times, which means going through Alberta by train 6 times in the process.
Northern Ontario, more trees than anyone can handle. Manitoba, Northern Ontario lite. Saskatchewan, likely nice, but the train times it for the night because there's really nothing to see but grain :) Alberta though is beautiful. Rivals a lot of American vistas I'm sure, I have not had the pleasure to see them with my own eyes in person though.

Lately, BC is on fire too much. I saw the Okanagan Valley in my youth. Not sure how much remains. I've wondered what Seattle is like. Probably a lot like Vancouver. But I was too young to recall it much. Preteens don't notice much of that sort of thing :)

Lobster -> RE: Understanding my country eh (2/10/2021 12:59:22 PM)

Seattle is Atlanta of the northwest. A traffic nightmare. I have a distinct distaste for big cities. I would no more go to LA than I would jump in a lake of molten lava. I've only seen pictures of Alberta and BC but those are the kinds of places I like to visit. The mountain ranges in North America are very picturesque.

Banff National Park is beautiful, much better than Glacier National Park. I understand that Jasper is even better.

Here is another flag from a rebellion:

One nice oddity about Alberta is that it is a rat
and cockroach free zone. In fact it is the biggest
populated land area free of such vermin.

They actually have response teams on
standby that are tasked with stamping out
any outbreaks that occur. They have inspectors
doing spot inspections along farms located on
provincial borders as that is where rats typically
gain their first foothold.

And it's true, I never saw any cockroaches or
rats anywhere. Instead, there were lots of
urban rabbits. I speculate they fill the
niche that rats would occupy in most cities.

Was common to see rabbits loping along
the sidewalks of heavily built up areas.

Hmm I did not know this. Interesting.

It's mostly full of wineries. Not a great place to drive around, but a very great place to be a passenger in the car [;)]

But if you want more diversity, there are a growing number of microbreweries too!
