I tried the demo for this on steam, which consisted of sinking a moored wooden ship with an ironclad and maybe something else , I don't remember because it didn't really grab me, tried once and uninstalled. Graphics are nice though.

I also have the original Victory at Sea and never got very far into it. It may have just been an unfamiliar control scheme since I'm not always willing to learn new tricks anymore. Or too much of an rts feel, though I do prefer naval games real time.

I've had a couple of Ironclad era themed games, and personally I've just found them as boring as most of the historical accounts I've read of the ship to ship combat of the era.

Is there a political aspect for potentially triggering foreign intervention (ref. the Trent affair) ?

I have been following Victory at Sea Pacific for a long time, and based on recent forum posts and reviews, it still needs a lot of work. I think I will hold off for a good while to see if the developers actually finish this game.

Not currently.

The dev encourages discussion of features like this in the early access phase.

I'm interested in the game and appreciative that he'd take the time to go through all that, but I wish there was a quick and dirty summary video for those that don't have an hour and 19 minutes to watch this.
