Phoenix100 -> supplies required query (2/15/2021 12:29:27 PM)

Quick query: If I increase the supplies required on, for example, Noumea, an island which can only be supplied by sea, does that have any effect of any sort on anything. There's a button there to allow you to increase the supplies required. I understand that when I use this button for land bases that are supplied by land there are consequences, but for islands that I have to supply by sea? Thanks.

For Noumea, if other bases there have more supplies that they need and are not stockpiling them, then the supplies will move to Noumea.

Phoenix100 -> RE: supplies required query (2/15/2021 1:34:56 PM)

Sorry. I should have specified - if there is only one base on an island, I meant. So, only one base on Noumea, does requesting more supply affect anything at all? Thanks.

RangerJoe -> RE: supplies required query (2/15/2021 1:58:55 PM)

No.

Phoenix100 -> RE: supplies required query (2/15/2021 2:21:00 PM)

Thanks

Well ... if the base is in the Auto Convoy system ... [;)]

RangerJoe -> RE: supplies required query (2/15/2021 2:28:39 PM)

True. But then, I never use the Auto Convoy system.

If I'm not mistaken, Noumea is the base at the southern end of New Caledonia; there ARE 2 other bases north of Noumea - Koumac at the northern tip and one other near Noumea. So, if either or both of those bases have EXCESS supply it can be pulled to Noumea. I would increase the supply draw at Noumea to ensure that it doesn't leak away to those bases, unless they need supply as well.

+1

True. Noumea isn't a single-base island. My bad. But I was trying to understand if anything automatic would happen via the sea by the use of that button, as it does via land. And it seems the only consequence would be if I had set up an auto convoy to Noumea. Thanks all.

Randy Stead -> RE: supplies required query (2/15/2021 3:51:03 PM)

In my most recent play of Guadalcanal scenario I developed La Foa [1 hex from Noumea] to a level 2 port, and Koumac at the end of the island as a level 3 port and level 2 airbase. My idea was that La Foa would be a bit of a logistics hub to draw supply from Noumea, then it would forward it to Koumac and minimize the loss of supply from overland transport during the supply movement phase. My rationale for doing this was to have a base closer to Coral Sea and base some patrol planes there for better search radius and a dive bomber squadron for ASW and a fighter squadron for protection. Aside from that, I guess I am a bit weird for liking to see an undeveloped backwater become an important, built-up base. But as supply is limited in the Guadalcanal [and perhaps all] scenario it makes more sense to do things differently if a cheaper and equally effective option is available.

Someone helpfully pointed out that I could have simply based an aircraft tender and patrol planes at Koumac and have avoided the expenditure of supply and effort to march the engineers up there and use the odd ship to [slowly] unload supply for the engineers until the port was developed enough to have a decent unload rate.

There is more than one way to accomplish certain tasks in this game, as I am learning.

Dang it, muffed another edit and turned it into a self-quote by clicking the wrong button. I have to break myself of the practice of using square brackets instead of curved brackets as I end up having strings of text with the strike through lines n them.

Ian R -> RE: supplies required query (2/16/2021 4:07:45 AM)

No such luck.

I think curved brackets refers to ( ), also known as parentheses. (I don't know what they have to do with parents, though. Putting limits around their offspring perhaps?). [:-]

a bit OT here. is this the same 'uncivil engineer' that posted the epoxy coated rebar segment on youtube? Can't help but ask I've tied tons & poured thousands of yards... in the past

No. And if you're pouring concrete it's too wet. You PLACE concrete.

HaHa, you funny. Pumped it, Poured, PLACED it, jacked it out, you name it
