I cannot get supply past Alamein. How do you get to a defended Alexandria without supply? I don't think you can chain HQs. Or can't you? Thanks.

Use air transport or beachhead supply, or oversupply your troops with trucks before pushing them out of supply range. No chaining of HQs.
