IdahoNYer -> AI pilot training (2/22/2021 10:38:30 PM)

I'm just curious, and I'm sure this has been asked before, but I can't find the thread....

So a question to the AI players out there.....Does the AI train pilots, or do they fill squadrons with unseasoned rookies?

PaxMondo -> RE: AI pilot training (2/23/2021 3:44:34 AM)

There is no pilot training done be the AI.

Replacements are from the VET pool first, then the open pool which is the national average. This is another one of the little things that makes the AI much better as the allies; the allies are rotating units in and out every few months. These units can come back with the exp set at a much higher than the national avg, big advantage.

The national average for IJ is 35; it varies among the allies.

Good info Pax, thanks for that. It does suggest that a very simple tweak to improve AI performance would be to jump the national averages. So if you want to play Allies against Japan-AI (or vice-versa), create a "new" scenario in which that's the only change. Would take about a minute to do, but could have an enormous impact on the quality of your game vs. the AI.

Suggests not paying attention to pilot quality (ie - not bothering to train them or pick the best for certain missions etc) when playing as the Allies v the AI would level the field a little?

Slightly, and imperfectly. The solution offered by Kull is the easiest, and is even used in the various Ironman scenarios.

During an AI game, it’s best to tailor a bit the scenario, if you really want to enjoy the game. For example, in an AI game playing as the Allies, increase the XP of the IJN/IJA pilots (55 or 65 is already good enough), give some free supply/fuel sources in the Home Islands, increase some key aircraft R&D (or advance their arrival in the editor), give some Vehicle/Armament factories, reduce the Merchant Shipyards a bit to avoid the IJ driving the industry in the wall with a type of industry there is enough of...

Late EDIT: or just play an Ironman scenario. Point is, the regular scenarios may be hard for the AI to really fill in for a human opponent if you’re experienced in the game.
