Randy Stead -> Port & supply dump hits (2/23/2021 10:56:41 PM)

My 4-E bombers are hitting enemy ports and I see reports of various of X hits on port, supply dump, airfield. What I, and I am sure others, would like to know is what sort of effects a hit point has. For example, if for sake of ease there are 1,000 points of supply and the supply dump takes 1 hit, how many supply points are lost? Similar query with respect to port and runway hits, though there we can see some relationship in diminished cargo handling and aircraft operations.

I suspect the answer is not simple and will involve such factors as ordnance delivered to cause damage and the lethality of that ordnance. A 16 inch naval shell will obviously do more damage than a 5 inch shell, a 2,000 pound bomb more damage than a 250 pound bomb. Any insight into this is appreciated, with thanks.

Depends on how much supply is there, and on the bomb/ shell caliber

You can run a scenario with FOW switched off and find out for yourself. It shows supply/fuel to be lost from bombing. Not the actual losses though, cause an empty base still gets the numbers

For the reference, BB bombardment can wipe out 5k+ actual supply in one go

Some portion of that will be from shore guns returning fire.

For the next turn, save the game. Then exit the game, start it again, select two player then run the turn. You will then see the actual damage inflicted as far as the amount of supply and fuel lost, then check the base the next turn. The damage is variable but you will see the damage for that turn only. But it will give you an idea of how much is lost as a percentage of what was there during the attack. Note: The amount of supply and fuel can change but if it is an island base with no ships arriving, then the fuel should remain the same. Any unit there will use supplies.

I should've known better than to expect there would be easy answers. [:D]

Supply hit, AFAIK is supposed to be 1% of total supply.

Some discussion and interesting info from Alfred here:

Thanks, Sardaukar, that was an interesting read.

A very long time ago I was operating under the impression that each hit destroyed 1,000 points of supply.

This was a result of consistently seeing this effect in my games.

After posting about it Alfred clued me in to the fact that the effect is variable.

I do know from personal experience that it is possible to lose as much as 1,000 points of supply per hit.
