Congrats to Elliot and Erik! Even though DWU admittedly isn't my absolute personal favorite (though it is in my top 3), it's definitely earned its spot at the top of the list. Well done, guys!

There's also the question of whether EotFS even qualifies as a 4x. I've heard/read numerous arguments that it's more grand-strategy.

It's the best of all time because its one of the only 4x to make you feel like you really are the emperor of known space if you turn certain game mechanics to automatic which nicely replicates the waste and folly of the bureaucracy. I hope DW2 keeps this feel and expands on it with even better automation.

It is hard with these lists... I always regarded the old Ascendancy as a better game than Moo2 but it was not as popular, but I probably played that one more than Moo2. I think it actually was a better game though. Probably not good enough to end up in the top 10 of a general list but I would probably have it there in my personal list.

Ascendancy, I loved this game, also the bande originale was immersive. When playing that game I felt in another universe.
Also I loved how our colonies were buildable, or also the research tree.

I'm not a big fan of RTS games, but DWU has also earned its place on my gaming nvme drive; a little known but highly prestigious award.
