karonagames -> Differences between WITE and WITE2 (3/6/2021 1:02:43 PM)

While waiting to see if my beta application has been successful, I have been datamining the manual and the XTRG reveal stream to determine what changes I will have to make to the strategies I used in WITE.

Firstly I was expecting the new map projection to correct the distortions found in the WITE map, mainly the fact that Rostov is about 6 hexes further from the the start line than the true distance in miles. From what I can determine, the new map has increased the distance from Lvov to Kiev by 3-4 hexes and reduced the distance from Kiev to Rostov by 2-3 so the net distance has has not changed by very much between the 2 maps. I couldn't exactly measure the distance between Leningrad and Rostov, but I think there is a slight increase of 4-5 hexes.

I think I read in another thread that The initial OOB's have been based on Nigel's Askey's phenomenal series of books: this has resulted in the initial OOB's changing as follows:

WITE WITE2
German on map Manpower 3,266,451 3,281,152
Artillery 32,513 34,822
AFVs (different classification ?) 5,330 4,231
Aircraft 3,161 3,133

Soviet on Map Manpower 3,449,937 2,690,125
Artillery 32,513 34,822
AFV 21,421 12,385
Aircraft 11,402 9,728

I could not see the number in the Soviet TBs for Finland and the Far east, but some of these would have been on map in WITE but are now off map. The total soviet manpower including TBs is 3,600,000 (ish)

Another key difference, especially with the emphasis on logistics in WITE2, is the number of trucks. I spent so much time on this when I beta tested WITE, so I was especially interested to see the differences here. Vehicles are categorised differently between WITE and WITE2, so I could not tell for certain if I was comparing like for like. In WITE on map units had 205,254 trucks with 150,000 in the pool; WITE2 has 269,231 vehicles in on map units and 68,000 in depots and the pool.
There are approx. 90k trucks in off map units

The best change from what I can see is the introduction of dynamic victory conditions rather than the linear ones used in WITE. This was the biggest issue I had with WITE, and I am so pleased to see the system that has been introduced in WITE.

Can't wait to get my hands on this.
