How big will the maps be ?
Will some of them be a good size. Like Tigers On The Hunt ?

There is no set size for a map in V&V. However, common sizes are 16x8, 16x10, 16x16, 32x10 hexes etc.

The smaller maps are great for infantry focused scenarios where you can be in contact on the first turn. Larger maps are better for mixed vehicle/infantry scenarios. It may not sound like it, but a 16x16 hex map is actually fairly large for the scale of combat we're aiming for.

There's no reason we haven't built larger maps, and in fact Lance has talked about it, but the focus has been on preparing high quality scenarios for the first release.

Thanks for that DingBat

I know what you mean about smaller maps. Lock n Load Heroes of Stalingrad has small maps. I always get hit on turn one ! lol

Large maps would give you the chance, to look around a bit.

To me, the perfect game would be. VaV meets WWII Frontline Command. That was a great game.

When I was a lot younger, my friends and I pooled our ASL copies and put together a regimental sized engagement with each player acting as a battalion commander. I think it was on like 24 map boards or something equally foolish.

Of course, someone bumped the table on like turn 3 and that ended that.

One Day I WILL play "Clearing of the Breskins Pocket" but I will probably chicken out and do it on VASL....

What is the size/distance of a hex? I'd love to imagine what this is as I view a map[:)]

Hi,

I'm afraid this isn't going to be a particularly satisfying reply. If you look into the original V&V tabletop rules, you'll notice there is no scale set for either hex size, or turn length. Barry's focus on keeping the rules simple can be laser-like.

There's a, possibly apocryphal, tale that the scale of Squad Leader was set at 40m per hex simply because one of the designers rolled a die and it came up "4".

I think that 40-50m per hex with turns of 1-3 minutes is reasonable.

Hope this helps.

Yes thanks, this is how I imagined it to be since so much is based off of SL I believe.
