Where are they, why is this happening, how do I turn them off?

I can't find anything anywhere on the internet, in the forums, the game guide, or anything else that talks about galactic storms. I only realized what they were when I was looking at the expansion planner and got a tooltip warning saying a system was in a galactic storm. I thought a star was dangerous or something and that was destroying my ships.

Are they permanent or do they jump around? Do they just make some places unusable? Can I remove them? Is there anything written about them anywhere? How do you deal with them? Can you forbid travel to certain systems? What is the point of them?

It's big clouds on the galaxy's map with sometime lightning. When zoom in, it look like flashing red/yellow.

It's random from the map generation.

With a mod probably but it's hard coded.

They are permanent and never move.

No, you can still move in and build things.

With a shield with a good regeneration rate for resist to regular damages.

Thank you. They are so vague I can't really tell where they are. I keep losing auto exploration ships because my shields aren't good enough yet but I don't want to turn off all exploration.

I don't think, I already lost an exploration ship, in a galactic storm ever.
Normally the exploration ship warps in and out immediately, so damage are mitigated.

Are you sure they are not sucked with a black hole or another oddity like that?
