Lowpe -> Patton Museum in the California Desert (3/13/2021 7:05:54 PM)

Got a chance to visit this place, I will put up a link when I get some time, it is east of Palm Springs, and south, in the Desert, where Patton set up a training facility to prepare American troops for war in North Africa.

General Patton Memorial Museum
Chiriaco Summit, CA

Here is the big guy...at West Point his statue is facing away from the Library.

That looks like the hull armor was welded and not riveted. The riveted armour had problems in that if it was hit by a shell that did not penetrate the armour, the rivets might pop off inside and bounce around . . . [X(]

Thanks for posting. You'd think they could get a BS troop to come and paint this on a weekend.

Good Museum. Lots of cool weapons there and artifacts donated by vets of his units. Well worth the time.

I took a few pictures of a M3 Stuart at the Fort Lewis Tank Museum. The tanks there all take a beating from the weather as well. In this case, the rain instead of the sun. I always get a kick out of the Stuart's rather tall boxy shape.

I was looking at the previous picture with the long frontal slope all the way to the turret. I imagine the M3 Stuart is the original boxy shape and the M5 is the one with the fully sloped front. It doesn't look like the turret height above ground changed.

Yeah, the M3 certainly had the more 'primitive' shape. Hardly any sloping to the armor at all. I doubt if the Japanese at the Tenaru river battle noticed much though.

The back angle of same. I'm pretty sure this was a M3A1 according to the posted sign.
