pontiouspilot -> Japanese type 3 mines (3/22/2021 3:10:10 PM)

I am later '44 as Japan and I realize that I have a large inventory of Type 3 mines. Search as I might I can't find a ship or sub capable of laying these. What am I missing?.....pls don't tell me to check manual as I haven't had that for 10 years!

cheers

Nomad -> RE: Japanese type 3 mines (3/22/2021 3:16:00 PM)

Looking way back I found this in the WitP forum: mine

Seems to be an air dropped mine.

If you are a registered player you should be able to download the manual in PDF version. If it is not available as a separate item on the Matrix site, someone here could surely send it to you.

Well that may be the answer!! I will check that out.....I had never heard of Japanese having air mine drop capability, albeit even on this limited basis.

pontiouspilot -> RE: Japanese type 3 mines (3/22/2021 4:58:32 PM)

I see the option under "city attack" but in late August '44 don't see any 2 eng. bombers capable. Any idea what plane and when available?

RangerJoe -> RE: Japanese type 3 mines (3/22/2021 5:04:19 PM)

Try the Betty, Nell, Sally, Helen, Frances, Lily . . .

BBfanboy -> RE: Japanese type 3 mines (3/22/2021 11:34:14 PM)

There must be a city within range. Since it is a strategic attack an enemy base might not suffice. Never heard of anyone air dropping mines at a base that did not have a city with it.

Not just a base but I also think that it needs a port . . . [8|]

There are some one engine bombers that can drop mines as well if a target is in range. The Kate torpedo bomber being one of them.

HansBolter -> RE: Japanese type 3 mines (3/23/2021 11:40:36 AM)

I found aerial mine drooping to be a boondoggle that is hardly worth the effort.

Like torpedo bombing, aerial mining requires the delivering plane to drop to a minimum altitude to deliver the product no matter what altitude you set for the trip to the target.

Aerial mines are dropped at 3k altitude. This may be fine over a non-important target, but any target worth mining will devastate your planes with flak and barrage balloons.

B29s don't mix it up well with balloons.

DesertWolf101 -> RE: Japanese type 3 mines (3/23/2021 12:33:13 PM)

In my current PBEM game my opponent is resorting to aerial mining and I was surprised to discover that fighter aircraft are forbidden from intercepting the mine laying aircraft. Is this working as designed?

pontiouspilot -> RE: Japanese type 3 mines (3/23/2021 7:10:09 PM)

I have Aug. '44 variants of all these planes at big home island ports and can't lay a dammed thing!! I'm guessing that Hans is right anyway....at our age it's not worth the trouble.

Unfortunately that is how it is.

Everyone has the manual. A digital version is installed when you install the game.

So operation "Starvation" really isn't much of an option in the game? I've never gotten into 1945 to give it a try.

RangerJoe -> RE: Japanese type 3 mines (3/25/2021 5:03:01 AM)

The mines may be easily spotted as to being in the hex, but with enough of them and no minesweepers . . . [X(]

vonK0tze -> RE: Japanese type 3 mines (3/25/2021 2:37:10 PM)

Can they be dropped on your own bases? As defensive mines?

That might be of more use so late in the war

You are not ever going to be seeing your own bases displayed on the City Attack menu where the option to mine takes place, so I don't think so.

No.

pontiouspilot -> RE: Japanese type 3 mines (3/25/2021 8:24:01 PM)

I may have figured it out...it helps if you turn off stockpile!

Agreed. AD mines are no where near as effective as they were historically.
