Mower -> Carrier Capable squadrons no option to transfer to CVs (3/23/2021 7:15:54 PM)

They are within range and there is space on the carrier but the carrier doesnt appear in the list for transfer to ship?

Thanks.

Are the air units still restricted? You may have to buy their freedom of movement.[;)]

Restricted command?

All planes damaged?

Also, even if there is space, the carrier can only have five air units on board, each fragment counts as an air unit and I believe that when you break an air unit down, each division also counts as an air unit. At least, I could not get another air unit on the carrier until I recombined the divisions into a complete air unit.

Screen shots would help.

I cant change the command HQ to say Independent (no political points) so Im guessing thats the issue (is that what is meant by "restricted")

There are only 4 squads on the CV, all serviceable.

Japanese restricted airgroups can transfer to CVs just fine. Kind of bug. They attain independent status on transfer.

Mower, do you per chance use the first Corsair or some other Navy plane that might look CV capable at first but in reality is not?

Playing USN and no it is May 1942 so no F4Us as yet.

If a squadron is attached to a specific command (IE not independent) can it not be transferred from an airbase to a CV?

Only if the air unit itself is not restricted. You buy the air unit out to an unrestricted command then load it onto the US CV and then it becomes independent.

Howso please, the manual does not specify.

Also, unrelated, how can I tell if a ground unit is an airbase support unit? The manual does not specify this.

You buy out an air unit like any other unit, that is you change the command.

If a support unit has air support squads, then it is an airbase support unit althoughit maalso have other functions.

Mower, About the Airbase support: The unit should have Aviation Support squads (ground crews). Some Base Forces have engineers but no Aviation Support. You have to look at the details.

RangerJoe -> RE: Carrier Capable squadrons no option to transfer to CVs (3/23/2021 10:53:46 PM)

All of this is in the manual.

I am out of here.

Now, on the topic of political points, can anyone tell me why I have zero every turn even though Im not using any?

Most likely you have a ship that was supposed to be withdrawn and you haven't yet.

Mower -> RE: Carrier Capable squadrons no option to transfer to CVs (3/25/2021 1:51:29 AM)

Thanks bro, I dont have any such overdue ships but lots of squadrons overdue. Is there any way to withdraw many at a time? Going through the squadron lists and doing so one by one is tedious in the extreme.

There is no way to do withdraw more than one at a time. Go to the Intelligence screen ( press I ) and on the upper right area there is a button listed as Group withdrawal Schedule.
Select it. All of the overdue ones will be listed at the top. You can access them from there and as you withdraw a unit you will be returned back to the screen and you can select another one.

Ian R -> RE: Carrier Capable squadrons no option to transfer to CVs (3/25/2021 2:08:59 AM)

It may be tedious, but it is necessary.

This because a significant proportion of squadrons have a "P" - for permanent - withdrawal postscipt on the with draw date. You lose the planes and pilots when they go, so, you need to go and shift all the pilots to the general reserve, and, if possible, downgrade the aircraft to something obsolete before you hit the withdraw button.

There are many other withdrawing air groups without the "P" - with those the planes and pilots go to the pools automatically.

Notes:

1. If you disband far away from home with a bunch of damaged aircraft, a proportion of those damaged aircraft will not make it to the pool.

2. If the airgroup is on a small base, with not enough supply, you will have to fly it somewhere bigger and/or better supplied to enable it to withdraw (on time or at all).

3. You can't withdraw if there is a fragment left behind.

4. If in a hurry, the best solution is to disband any fragments into another group at that base to delete them, and then disband the parent.

5. I can't remember if you can do Note 4 with a fragment of a "P" withdrawal group. Perhaps not.

6. If you withdraw early, you may get a message enquiring whether you would like to receive some positive number of PPs. Take them. You still get the planes and pilots back.
