squatter -> Practical advice on use of APs in initial German offensives (3/27/2021 4:12:05 PM)

I'm wondering what rough proportion of purposes players use their APs for in initial axis offensives?

- what percentage of APs do you tend to use to prioritise port/railyard repair?
- what percentage for depot building?
- for leader replacement?
- other uses?

Personally I tend to focus on repair and depots until the initial drive slows down, then when I have excess APs or once my logistical system is in good shape I start worrying about replacing leaders. Improving command quality gets important during the winter with all the admin checks you really don't want to fail. However, I don't think there is a "right" answer to this. You may prefer to focus on leaders and that may work well.

Worth considering to set two more armies to assault. Probably 11th Army to quickly deal with Odessa and later Sevastopol.

18th army is a good choice as well. Most of my AP goes to depots, next is repairs and manual assignments of construction units. After that(in the winter) comes the mobile unit leaders where I prioritize morale, mech and admin(possibly even initiative) in that order. Morale is most important for army commands. Then the infantry where I prioritize Morale admin inf.

If you don't make a "great" logistic network you are going to fail. Everything else is "mute" point if this is not taken care of properly.

Logistics is the key to winning this game. Ignore this at your own pearl.

I make a point to deploy Model to I Corps, 18th Army as soon as possible. He is a top leader too valuable to not use.

I assign him to 11th Army. I believe giving him just corps is waste of his skills.

Either can work really - his skill differential is a bit diluted at Army level, but affects more units so it probably comes out about even in my experience. I definitely try to end up with him at least at Army level, but I often start out putting him charge of a key Corps in one of the central armies heading for Moscow, especially to help during the winter counteroffensive.

Go North at your own risk :-) I will leave that to the future of the WITE2 community to figure out. (I am assuming your I Corps is going to Leningrad)

(Hint: That defensive terrain is a royal pain in the butt. Against a good Soviet you will spend infinite resources for very little VP's in the North)

In WITE2 this is a much better use of Model :-)

Although I still like Model in a Corps in certain situations.

How about Rommel?

I have to try him on East Front.
