1.2.5. Unlocking the Soviet Southern
Front

If a Soviet national hex south or east of 187,187 (just
southeast of Lvov) is Axis controlled then all of Southern
Front and related airbases will be unfrozen.

Should that be both East and South rather than "or"

after all Minsk is East of 187,187, surely a drive on Minsk doesn't free up Odessa?

The simplest method to determine is: If either coordinate (either X or Y) > 187 you have activated the Soviet Southern Front on turn 1.

LOL

In the day, I was a professional Armor officer. I understood the grid or in this case hex coordinates.

My issue is the understanding that even if I do not move AGS, that the necessary advance of either AGN or AGC will cross the 187 East line hundreds of miles North of Lvov and you are telling me that releases the Soviets in the South.

I guess I will experiment.

thanks

no, you need to move units of AGS across the boundary set by that hex to unlock S Front. Stay north or west of that hex and you'll be fine

Thanks. the AGS part was puzzling, can I assume you meant:

Stay north AND west of that hex and you'll be fine

loki100 -> RE: Can someone clarify? (3/30/2021 7:46:48 AM)

oddly I meant what I wrote ...

best advice look at the map in the manual, from the marked hex draw an imaginary line south and another east - don't cross those lines unless you want to unlock S Front

Yeah that's how I understood it, the manual picture could really use those imaginary lines though :D

How long is the S Front frozen if the GE player doesn't cross the line?

carlkay58 -> RE: Can someone clarify? (3/30/2021 1:14:21 PM)

Ooops - it is if BOTH coordinates are > 187. Darn my after work slump!

It can't move on the Soviet T1 so its in place when your units in Rumania unlock, it also means its vulnerable to someone hooking down towards Odessa (I know at least one of the testers really liked this approach to managing AGS)

So I ran my first experiment. I blew a small hole in AGC turf at Brest-L and advanced one Inf Div to 188,167. ended the turn.

at the beginning of turn two, the Southern Soviets had all run away from the 6th and 17th AGS armies still at the border.

when you say 'Southern Soviets had all run away from the 6th and 17th AGS armies still at the border' what do you mean. If the formations in that sector (ie around Lvov up to Rovno and the Pripyet) disappeared that is perfectly WAD, they are not locked and the AI will move them as it wishes.

If you mean the Soviet forces facing Rumania just disappeared then that is a bug and best reported in the technical sub-forum, pref with a link to a save.

The_Drill_SGT -> RE: Can someone clarify? (3/30/2021 5:30:07 PM)

you are correct. false alarm. I'll try some further excursions

sorry

carlkay58 -> RE: Can someone clarify? (3/30/2021 5:49:05 PM)

Please note that the AI will disband all southern frontier forts in most games whether the Southern Front is activated or not. This sometimes makes it seem like the Southern Front was activated and retreated but it really was just the removal of the forts.
