Vulcan607 -> RE: New scenario for testing Pacific Fury #1 Bolt from the Blue! (5/6/2021 9:42:36 PM)

Ok short update as I had work today and an in game issue an F15J ordered to return to base kept charging at least 6 mig31 took me a while to work out how he was dying as the rest of the group was returning to base as ordered I went to an earlier save and ordered him back specifically though the AI was sending in 2 F15J to take on the swarm of mig 31s alone they got a few but it was the timely arrival of aim54s that saved the day now it’s 2V2 and I’ve got the tomcats burning in to try to get into AIM-7 range.

I’ve also worked out what all the Bogies flying around are doing as a load of vampires appeared that didn’t seem to be targeted at anything (yay!) right up until I noticed the marine base was right in their path! (OH S!) This is unfortunate as the F15s and the recently launched hornets will have to be diverted to intercept the missile once more leaving the carrier under protected! Honestly I am just going to expect something bad to happen each time a set of fighters reach ready status! Still loses are light more through blind luck than anything on my part.

Oh and one issue how do I check magazines on bases not under my control I want to know if I forward base the Eagles how many missiles I have to play with but since the bases are allied I don’t have a magazine icon to click.

Checking non-controlled bases is a bit awkward.

Easiest way is to go to the Air Ops window, select an aircraft and when preparing to ready it. The # Available in Magazines column is where you want to look.

In the editor you can switch sides and check it out as well.

Thanks got a bit of an issue since my auto saves don’t seem to be updating which is slightly annoying not really sure how to fix it. Also had to order a suicidal F15J back to base by going into the editor since it was attacking the might of the soviet Air Force with only his gun! I’ll be honest I don’t see me doing well even if I get the auto save working (I keep forgetting to save manually lol) the raids are too large and the soviet fighters are pushing up right to the Carrier groups SAM envelope and my fighters are too few to see them off at best I will get a few then have to fall back before i risk taking any loses. things would probably be different or at least less bad if I hadn’t used the f15s to defend the USMC base, oh Well you live and learn.

Out of interest is their any chance we can get some AA to defend some of the bases?

Well I am going to call it badger raid has fired so many missiles it’s impossible for the fleet to survive.
The only way I see me winning this is starting again and finding out what has eyes on the fleet personally I believe it’s the 2nd AGI (sunk by UGM84 just as the soviet missiles arrive at the independence).

Ok here’s my run down on what I would need to do to win or at least last longer!
1) I would have to make sure my fighters do not defend the land bases
2) Sink the 2nd AGI though I think the only real method is sub launched harpoons due to the amount of hostile fighters.
3) ignore jammers and recon aircraft wait for a strike to appear and attack it in full force before it can fire.

I’ll be honest this scenario has me stumped I can’t think how to keep the fleet alive with the amount of bombers inbound though I am wondering if I got unlucky and got 2 or 3 strikes simultaneously due to the amount of aircraft that attacked.

Hay Vulcan607

Good work lasting as long as you did. It is possible to survive, I've done it but knowing what is coming helps.

You have a point on the airbase AA, I'll add that in, SunlitZelkova gave some good help earlier in this thread which I used in PF#2.

I believe you have hit on two of the key points:

1) take out his eys
2) concentrate your defenses

One you may not be tracking is your WRA. Be careful how many missiles you are throwing down range

This scenario really shows the value of the Tyco's. Each of the basic CVBGs that I've built for the campaign has three CG/CGNs and either 1 or 2 of them are Tycos. In this case your Tyco is in port and you are left with two older CGs - good ships but dated. In PF3, you are also in a bad situation but you have a Tyco with the CV and another not far away - makes a big difference.

Yeah I had a big problem with WRA I had some hornets and phantoms about to take out a raid went to check out some of my airfields and they had fired off most of their sparrows at some vampires they couldn’t possibly hit, had to order them weapons hold in the end with just 2 sparrows left on a flight of 4 phantoms. I think I can do it but I would have to start again and order all my jets to hold fire until I tell them too. Originally I had flights of tomcats trying to clear a hole in the jammers and recon aircraft which worked right up until the replacement aircraft took off and I was back where I started just with a few flights of tomcats, phantoms and F15s

CHM -> RE: New scenario for testing Pacific Fury #1 Bolt from the Blue! (5/15/2021 1:28:49 PM)

I made sure everything with wings was over the carrier. I didn't mind if the land bases (or the Japanese... sorry!) took a beating. All the tankers and USAF fighters were following the carrier.

I also didn't waste too many missiles on the enemy fighters unless they actually threatened me - basically, play hyper defensive until the bombers turn around and go home! :D

Going to wrap this one up over the weekend if anyone has other points
