Fascinating (brief) analysis of the USS Arizona explosion in this video clip.

Just curious if anyone knows what documentary this comes from? The youtube page doesn't offer much help (seems to be Dutch subtitles on the screen).

It seems to be called "Death of the Arizona", at least someone in the comments mentioned it.
There is a Documentary called "Pearl Harbor: Death of the Arizona" listed on IMDB, so I guess this could be it.

I thought that too but the narrator for that title is female and the one in the clip is male. Too bad the clip is so short.

I've seen the docu on cable. It came out within the last few years. Something to the tune of 'Pearl Harbor in HD', or some such. That guy through most of it used to be in the Parks Service, probably retired in the video.

I have not heard the narrator for awhile, but he has narrated documentary and investigative programs before.

The black powder is usually what starts these, it is much more volatile than cordite.

Of course, could you imagine some people armed with pistols playing pool in a saloon when a pool ball or two made of gun cotton explodes? [X(]

it may be the best on video capture of a magazine explosion. I recall early photos of the Arizona wreck emphasizing that that the 'keeled over look' was due mainly to temperatures caused by the fires. Rather, it was the sheer structural collapse resulting from the detonation of the forward magazine. The bow area of the ship is utterly wrecked with the weight of Turret 1 and it's supporting barbette collapsing down on the wrecked decks and side plating.
