ORIGINAL: ussdefiant If anything, i'm sorta wondering at the build limit only being 40 for DShK AAMGs. That's only enough to fill out 4 and a half divisions a turn, which actually puts it at a worse position than 37/85mm AA guns, let alone the 122mm heavy artillery. I'm curious as to what the sourcing is for AAMG production being so low. quote:
I'm curious as to what the sourcing is for AAMG production being so low. The production of these AA machineguns was quite low in 1941. These began to be produced on the single #2 factory in Kovrov in 1940 only with technical difficulties. As the war began, the Kovrov factory had been overloaded with more urgent orders with emphasize on infantry weapons. So the DShK production line was evacuated to Kuibishev (now Samara) and the production were not expanded there too much until 1943, again the question of the priorities. The production numbers (including both AA and infantry support versions): Some portion of AAMGs (around 6000 throughout the war) was delivered to Navy 1940: around 800-1000 1941: 1634 (234 produced in Jan-Jun) 1942: 7400 1943: 14 400 1944: 14 800 1945 (till July): 7400 Data extracted from the article of Russian military historian specialising on infantry weapons and tactics, S.Fedoseev
