Gtex506 -> Vistula to Berlin Scenario Query (4/1/2021 10:06:49 AM)

Hi,

I just like to start off by congratulating Matrix Games on a great game.
As a newcomer to WitE2 I have a huge learning curve ahead [:)]

My query is the German army bottled up on the north coast has evacuated everything on one turn. This happened a few turns after the main offensive started, my soviet troops were not actively attacking in this sector but they had a continuous line in contact with the Germans.
Is it even feasible that the Germans could do this in actuality? I find it hard to believe the Germans could ship more divisions than the allies did when they landed in Normandy.

Thanks

Douglas

What is your difficulty setting? If it's 110 or higher the AI can move units very freely ("cheating").

From a historical standpoint evacuating 200,000 troops is no small feat. The British needed a week and a day at Dünkirchen 1940 (rescuing 330,000 troops), leaving behind all heavy equipment.

Comparing the two, Dünkirchen and Dover are much, much closer than Kurland<->Königsberg (or even further west, if Königsberg was already surrounded aswell). Plus Germany had much smaller shipping capacity, of course. My feeling is that it would've taken them months to evacuate the entire pocket.

Settings on easy as I am learning, so the Germans would be at 90

doesn't sound right, there is a bug report - https://www.matrixgames.com/forums/tm.asp?m=4993117

that also shows the AI not acting as its meant to, if you have the saves (your end of T1, the AI T2 and your start T2) then add them to that thread?

I am not looking for bugs just trying to learn the game.

Not figured how to add screen shots. I tracked down the 12th Panzer division, Turn 6 trapped in the Baltic pocket, Turn 7 in Slovakia, so it appears AI can freely move units anywhere.

What youre describing is a bug so theres nothing to "learn". If you can provide your data they can help resolve it with a patch which is the only solution. Ai can only do those teleport moves if morale is set over 110, but people like you have been saying its happening below that level which id a bug. Only other

The AI plays by slightly different rules. Basically if the units are supplied, and close to a functioning rail, it is allowed to move the units quite far. In real life, and playing as a human player, the Germans have limited shipping capacity in the Baltic. So normally only a few units can be moved each turn by sea. The AI doesn't have this limitation (mostly because it would be very difficult to weave this into the standard AI routines). So what you saw is very possible. In our recent AI vs AI tests, the AI tends to start evacuating the units at the start and completes it's evacuation by the end of turn 6. However, it can happen quicker.
