jnpoint -> introductory scenario 1 (4/1/2021 10:10:42 AM)

I follow the manual really close, but the result after 10+ times is always way from what the manual says. What am I doing wrong?
I tried to upload pictures, but it tells that it is c:fakepath and not supported?
But the problem is that I have a CV 18.2 to 6.8 (deliberate attack) - and still, I never win. I get this every time 'Defender 1:1.x Attacker' and 'Defending Forces HELD'.

I don't know if anyone can understand this, but I hope :)

The combat values are a VERY rough guide.

Is your unit in command within 5 hexes of the HQ it is attached to ?

Does its HQ have a good officer commanding with good stats ?

Are you attacking with units under different HQ's which gives you a penalty on the attack?

What is the terrain like ? Are you attacking into terrain that gives the defender bonuses ?

Is your unit fatigued or suffering from low supply ?

Is the defending unit getting support from reserves during the fighting ?

Have you called in Ground support from the air ?

As you can see the raw CV which is in any event only an estimate based on your recon level in that hex can be affected hugely by other factors.

Hope that helps

Ian

I was just following the manual very close, so I did not check all those things. I was told to do a few adjustments to the air support and move 3 units and then attack, not that complicated, but the result is every time not even near what it was supposed to be in this little introduction to the game. It is designed to learn me the game (I guess) so I just do what I'm told. And when I ended the turn the germans should have fallen back according to the manual, but that has not happened yet even though I have tried more than 10 times, and that is why I wonder what I am doing wrong. I do nothing the manual doesn't tell me.

I can say that I followed literally the tutorial in the manual three times, 2 on easy and 1 on normal, and I got the results (with very little variation) they wrote for T1 to T3.
I had only a difficult time on normal to reach the last VP city, but the first objective was easily captured.

I presume this is the attack on Velikie-Luki?

if you attack on T1 then you hit the problems discussed on p.88, You don't have a huge starting advantage and they are well supplied, so its quite possible that as you attack your units get disrupted and they manage to fend you off.

If you do the encirclement on T1, that means they can't resupply during the battle and you should be able to match the situation shown on p. 96 of the manual.

Note I'm not one for subtle attacks, I like things to stay beaten so a combination of overwhelming numbers and some supply problems on their side should get you more or less the result shown.

That is why I would have shown some pictures - but I can't for some reason. I just don't get it, as I guess we have the same game v1.0. It's just weird. In fact, it does not matter that much except that (bug - if it is) follows me when I play on in the campaign and I win almost nothing:)

can understand this is frustrating for you but the attack on p.96 has 1 Rifle Corps, 5 Rifle divisions and a couple of brigades, that has to be more than the 18.2 you report in your first post.

So first question is can you do the moves for T1 and T2 so that you end up with that attack situation.

This wetransfer link I think will give you access to the save I had when I did that attack - see if it works for you

jnpoint -> RE: introductory scenario 1 (4/1/2021 2:05:28 PM)

So I do not encircle AND attack in t1? I first attack in T2?

loki100 -> RE: introductory scenario 1 (4/1/2021 2:07:14 PM)

Hi no, encircle on T1 - use the suggested move pattern, then attack on T2, you should win as shown then.

jnpoint -> RE: introductory scenario 1 (4/1/2021 2:09:00 PM)

Oh, that's it. Thanks - and sorry that I am so persistent, I just couldn't get it :)

loki100 -> RE: introductory scenario 1 (4/1/2021 2:15:01 PM)

thats fine, learning this phasing is actually one of those things that build up to effective game play

CommC -> RE: introductory scenario 1 (4/1/2021 5:28:26 PM)

Did you have your settings on easy difficulty?

jnpoint -> RE: introductory scenario 1 (4/1/2021 7:37:53 PM)

Yes, I play on easy. I just can't beat hex (201,130). So I can't finish my encirclement. I'm trying again and this time I won, but only after 3rd attack and then only a mechanized corps could move in that hex. After the germans turn they have taken back all the hexes I won, so I'm back with nothing. So I give up. The Germans are way stronger than the manual says. I must do something wrong, but I can't figure out, what it is?

jnpoint -> RE: introductory scenario 1 (4/1/2021 9:38:13 PM)

I found the problem - somehow the computer gave the Germans a moral of 120 (playing on easy), so when I changed that to 120 moral for my units the game acted as it should have done all the time. I was almost going crazy not knowing what I was doing wrong but never thought that the computer gave the germans the bonus for playing on easy.
