A bit of a different issue; when launching the game over RDP, it won't launch with the error:
"GDI+ could not be found on your system. Please install Microsoft GDI+ in order to continue".

I did some googling and it seems there may not be much to be done about it, as the basic graphics engine used for the game may not be compatible with RDP, but just on the off-chance someone else has hit this and found a fix (or Bill knows a way around this like setting a path or something) I thought I would ask.

But I fully expect there isn't a way around it, which is a bummer for me as I often have to watch long-running processes overnight; I can't ignore them (but they also don't need my full attention). So games I can run via RDP and pause at any moment are a lifesaver.

Hi Woolymuffler,

Yes unfortunately this is an old error that I don't believe Microsoft ever addressed in that GDI+ will fail when the application is run over a remote connection.

Sorry about this as the game does use some GDI+ at times,
Hubert

Ah well, I was afraid of that. I had actually found an old post on a dev forum saying exactly that, but I was hoping it was not correct. Between this and WW1 Centennial Edition having mouse issues over RDP, it's tough to get my WW1 fix on those long running upgrades.

Success! I switched to using TightVNC and it works fine. No sound, but sound doesn't work from my machine over RDP either so no loss there. I have used VNC in the past but it's not my first instinct to try since I am in a Windows environment and RDP is built in.
