Medicusa -> HQ and Depots Priority and Truck Distribution (4/6/2021 11:47:55 AM)

Hi,
I still have huge problems with how my combat units are supplied. I always have enough rail capacity and depot capacity. I also have enough trucks in my pool. But as the screenshot here shows they do not use them in my depot. That means the combat units use their trucks and that cost me a lot of movement with them.

I now read that maybe there is a connection between HQ prio and Depot prio. Is it possible that a higher HQ prio would send my trucks first to the units and then to the depots? This would still not help a lot but I wonder if I could this way set HQ prio to a low level when they are close to a depot with their units in order to use their trucks for other places like depots with higher prio. Would that work?

But the main question still remains, how do I get my pool trucks into my depots?

First, the part of the map you're looking at is one where there's a lot of tough terrain that extends far from the depots. The farther the trucks have to go, the less supply will end up reaching the units in the end.

Second, how you have your depots setup (the depot priorities) in the chain will also determine where the trucks end up. I can't see that from these screenshots, but if you have a lot of depots above level 0 in your rear areas rather than your front line, that's where a good bit of your trucks could be.

Finally, supply does depend on the "pull" as well and the supply priority comes in there. Setting the corps or army in low supply but within truck MP range of a depot to priority 3 or even 4 will definitely help focus the logistical system. Parking an Army HQ and a FBD on the closest depot will help even more.

All depots are lower prio and there is still 2000 trucks left in my pool that are just not used by the system. So I am still looking for ways to trick that not working system until it is patched. But if you think I am wrong and the system is not buggy, I would appreciate a solution or explanation why my trucks are not used.

all I can do is repeat the explanations already given.

You have 41,000 useable trucks (& 14,000 in repair). The pool holds under 5% of your useable trucks. If you look at the production screen, at a guess a number of these trucks are in the transit pool (ie have been repaired and are in the system) not the active pool - ie available for assignment.

The game system will always have a pool as the system is constantly rebalancing the truck allocation as depots cease to be in use or come into action. Not all those trucks reach an active location in a given turn. Equally it needs a small balancing stock to equip units arriving from the reserve - so on balance 5% doesn't sound wrong to me

On the other hand, you lack the trains to fill out Pskov, but it would help a lot if:

a) reduce the LW commitment
b) review the supply priority of the commands in that sector
c) left your FBD on the hex - that alone will pull more rail capacity to bring in more freight

edit - for (b) its not depot priority that is the issue, its HQ priority (ie demand)

Medicusa -> RE: HQ and Depots Priority and Truck Distribution (4/6/2021 1:49:51 PM)

So what you are saying is is that Trucks in pool doesnt mean they are ready? Otherwise I am still at a loss. But if so I think the term pool is misleading hard.

Why do you think I "you lack the trains to fill out Pskov"? They used 1734t railroad from 12 000t and my railyard level gives me 14 000t here. Is there a number I am missing?

there are 2 parts to the pool - active (so can be assigned) and transit (so are ready but not available) .. this convention is used across the production system

Is Riga fully repaired? Even so that is not a lot of rail capacity, remember it is getting used up hex by hex and it may well also be allocated to other tasks

Medicusa -> RE: HQ and Depots Priority and Truck Distribution (4/6/2021 2:12:31 PM)

" ready but not available" I see. In my book this is not ready then. But now that I know the pool is not ready trucks it makes more sense.

But I get it now for the rail capacity. It seems I need around 60k and have only 54k connected. That finally also explains why some of the freight is in far away low prio depots and use up even more trucks. Thanks a lot.

the pool has 2 groups of trucks, you can see this using the production screen.

the 'transit' pool are trucks (in this case) that have been built or repaired and are in the system and will be ready (usually) next turn.

the 'active' pool are trucks that are ready to use but not in depots or units.

As above, there will always be something here, the game system needs it to avoid sudden shortages, equally units and depots are picking up and shedding trucks as the map situation and priorities alter. Some of this is then re-used locally, some has no other local use so goes into the generic 'pool' until it can be drawn on

Repsol -> RE: HQ and Depots Priority and Truck Distribution (4/6/2021 2:40:34 PM)

Perhaps the number of trucks in the TRANSIT POOL could be added in parenteces to the TURN SUMMARY screen (the space is avaliable [8D]).

Great questions, great answers! A lot to learn. Just to make sure, guys: the "pool" number in the turn summary window IS in fact the active one. So even there might be tradeoffs here and there, this number does NOT include the ones in transit.

Very interesting!

By the way I like your YouTube channel very much and I am happy to see that you are doing a lot of War in the East 2 content. Fantastic!

Who has a youtube channel?
