The PDF manual for Warplan Pacific is now available: you can download it here.

Is this version a printer friendly version ?

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Warplan Pacific - PDF manual (5/2/2021 1:40:28 PM)

I'll make one to download.

Thanks Al .... I've seen past manuals which took a ridiculous amount of per page printing due to background images ...... though I never did understand why since I've seen others which look similar but didn't have this issue ....

eskuche -> RE: Warplan Pacific - PDF manual (5/3/2021 2:27:10 AM)

I will just put it out there that the manual is a nice, concise summary of game points that is easily referencable. It was relatively well organized with only a few references to non-described concepts, and it steered away from the listing-of-mechanics trap. Well done.

The only gripe I have is that some mechanics, such as how dice rolls *actually work* seem to be quite missing. Are we not intended to actually know how the different numbers play out in battle? Contrast to the very explicitly granular retreat % chances. I'm not looking for WITE-level CV calculations here, but (and I may be missing something) it would be nice to know at least roughly, for example, how a 9 vs. 6 would play out compared to say a 6 vs. 3.

eskuche -> RE: Warplan Pacific - PDF manual (5/3/2021 2:39:11 AM)

While we're here, some other things that don't make sense and that don't come up in a quick search of the manual:
How are combat values actually calculated? It seems like it is the base rating * effectiveness * experience. How does strength come into play here? Does a 10/10 strength unit have the same CV as a 5/10 unit? What about a 10/30 unit? I assume there is some hidden multiplier, but I'm not quite sure of the rationale behind these things being hidden.

Additionally, lower tier units are much more difficult to judge, given the rounding issues. Perhaps some sort of inflation of CV values (like they did in war in the east) as an alternative or simply upgraded CV mode would be able to circumvent some of these possible issues. I understand that some rounding helps simulate the fog of war and uncertainty, but I also believe there should be some sort of middle ground between guesswork and showing-every-detail syndrome. Tooltip popups could perhaps help here?

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Warplan Pacific - PDF manual (5/3/2021 4:29:28 AM)

number on the left is what it has, the number on the right is it's maximum.

strength X eff X exp X unit added values (land its FA + ART + GUNS + TANKS)
air it depends A2A or GS or NAV or STRBOMB

As for land combat there is the enemy entrenchment, terrain, rivers, resource modifiers which reduce the attackers effective combat value.

When you hover for combat the odds tell you what how good the attack is.

1:1 - 2:1 favors defender but in some strong hold positions just throwing men at the problem works.
3:1 slightly favors attackers
4:1 more favors attackers
5:1+ really favors attackers

One of the keys is keeping the effectiveness up.

You can't formulate your way into a perfect attack. You need to balance your strength in units vs theirs and what you have as reserves. Sometimes it's just brute force low odds. Sometimes it's pounding it with air for 2-3 turns then attacking. Sometimes it is just maneuvering. What gets people is that you don't have an estimate on losses like all other games. This is a pure wargame that you know the odds and have a general idea of the potential results like on a chart but nothing is certain.

More armor/mech greater chance to retreat the enemy.
Tenacity prevents retreats. You have to basically destroy japanese land units.
Low effectiveness is the killer.

Air units watch their eff and strength mostly and realize if X country has crappy air units that way you are selective with them.

Naval combat is about a mix of forces to take losses.

eskuche -> RE: Warplan Pacific - PDF manual (5/3/2021 4:34:58 AM)

Thanks for the reply. I'm quite comfortable with no guaranteed attacks, just not as much with not knowing how on-paper CV is calculated at all [:D]

trutyjoh -> RE: Warplan Pacific - PDF manual (10/16/2021 12:55:53 AM)

Did I miss where a printer friendly download of the game manual is located?
TIA

Hairog -> RE: Warplan Pacific - PDF manual (10/16/2021 1:43:42 AM)

You can find a gateway to the manual on the start page of both WP and WPP. See attached

Yep. Got that one. Was looking for the clean printer friendly copy that was mention by AlvaroSousa above.
Thanks

Printable version is in game under the "?" help section as a PDF. It will also always be the updated one.

Is the manual being updated when the game is patched?

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Warplan Pacific - PDF manual (12/7/2021 1:09:20 PM)

in the game "?" yes.

BJGeary -> RE: Warplan Pacific - PDF manual (12/31/2021 11:08:16 PM)

I bought the game a few days ago. While I'm greatly enjoying it (and I also own the Steam version of WarPlan, which I've played for several years) I have to say that there are quite a few inaccuracies in the manual. For starters, section 8.3 in the manual is mostly a copy of WarPlan's manual and has incorrect info regarding how many subs, carriers, and other surface vessels can stack in WarPlan Pacific. In section 10, the bonus stated for naval Screening does not match what is shown in the game.

In section 17 the text says: "The more a country’s encryption is broken the greater chance for a successful intelligence operation with better results. The target player doesn’t know how much their encryption is broken. The player using COMINT has an idea of how well they are doing by intelligence results. When intelligence scans are yielding a lot of medium and high results the enemy cypher is fairly well cracked." Problem is that the manual fails to explain what "intelligence operation" and "intelligence scans" are and does not provide examples of them, so a player (such as myself) has no idea what tangible benefit I'm receiving when I succeed at deciphering encryption.

Lord_Calidor -> RE: Warplan Pacific - PDF manual (1/24/2022 7:22:48 AM)

In-game Manual under the "?", and also Print version from the WPP/Manual folder says it's 1.00.03 version.
Is there a latest, updated version?

AlvaroSousa -> RE: Warplan Pacific - PDF manual (1/24/2022 2:25:24 PM)

The colorful one is the original. I have been trying to get them to update it for a while. But there has been so many changes it needs to be redone.

The EBOOK is the current version. Which is the one that is grabbed in game. It should read 1.00.15 for the 15th version.
The current version of the game is 1.00.15

GiveWarAchance -> RE: Warplan Pacific - PDF manual (1/24/2022 6:24:53 PM)

I downloaded the manual from the link in the first post and got the EBOOK which is colored but doesn't show the version# anywhere I looked.
I read the manual before playing (took 2 weeks cause I am a slow reader). I will reread the new version to make sure I don't miss anything.
Where is the version# in the manual?

Lord_Calidor -> RE: Warplan Pacific - PDF manual (1/24/2022 9:51:47 PM)

I've got 2 versions:
1) is an EBOOK version (says so in the name), 109 pages, colorful, no version number in it. Document properties claim that it was created and modified on 29th March 2021.
2) the other, PRINT version. 95 pages, white/gray background but color pictures, it says version 1.00.03. Docs properties claim created/modified 24th September 2021.

The one on the link in the first post of this topic, and also on Matrix Games sate is the same as the 1) one, from 29.03.21.
I can't seem to find newer ones. Care to provide the link?
Thanks, cheers!

Remington700 -> RE: Warplan Pacific - PDF manual (1/24/2022 9:52:08 PM)

The game version is 100.05.1 for WPP. Version 100.15 is for WarPlan.

The current WPP manual, opening from version 100.05.1 actually reads 100.03 but does show the latest changes.

On the WarPlan EBOOK.pdf it is the 2nd page top left. This is the printable version that is in the game folder and the same in the help section of the game "?"

Are you updated to 1.00.15? It should be included there within the game under help.
Also what version is this? Matrix or Steam? Very odd. I do the same things you guys do for installing and updating to verify everything is right and I never have problems. Or I should say RARELY have problems.

I'll repost the download link at the top of this.

Ah, we had a comms breakdown, it seems. You mean WarPlan, I mean WarPlan Pacific. Matrix version 1.00.05.1.
Is the 1.00.03 Manual the latest one?

Oh, and let me thank you for this awesome game and your ongoing support. It's rarely seen in a gaming world. [&o]
I'm enjoying it immensely, though still learning and testing various strategies.
