Sly -> Is AA ground fire since t2 too strong? (4/6/2021 7:34:34 PM)

Since the support of your team for players is legendary :-), I'd like to raise the issue of air defense effectiveness. In t2 I attacked selected airports from a ceiling of 15,000 ft with level bombers. Anti-aircraft fire from the ground seems too strong. even a few guns can inflict heavy losses. Attacking anything from this ceiling (orsha, chisinau, ventpils, proskurov) causes great losses. Of course, after changing the ceiling to 23-25,000 ft it is a bit better but it is June 1941, not 1944 over Germany.
Since t2 AF mission bombs at a ceiling of 15,000 ft bring only losses, not to mention what happened at a ceiling of 9,000 ft.

So I have a question, is everything really working as designed? Everthing looks fine for me in WitW, but here??

What is the experience of other players in attacks on airfields or citys after t1?

The experience says "Don't do this in daylight". I will also mention that 15,000 ft is the prime altitude for effective medium and heavy flak guns. If you get above 18K then medium starts to fall off but you are starting to get into the sweet area for the heavy flak.

The only country that really emphasized daylight bombing was the US and some say that was because they were stubborn about it.

Airfields are not good bombing sites unless you catch the other side off guard. Not only do airfields have flak, they also tend to have fighters, and if you don't have escorts you will be chewed apart.

Thanks for the answer, although you don't fully understand me. I test the game engine to get to know it better, that's why I attack the same targets many times from different levels.

I have a specific question regarding the data in the editor:
Soviet 37 mm AA Gun, effective ceiling 15.000 ft, max 21.000
Soviet 76.2 mm AA Gun effective ceiling 29.000 ft max 40.000.

Am I to understand that 37 mm is 100% effective in the 1000 to 15,000 ft range, and 76.2 mm is in the 1000 ft to 29,000 ft range.
Could the fact that level bombers are flying low at 5000 ft somehow reduce the effectiveness of the seventy sixs?

in general bombing where there is decent AA is not a great idea. T1 is a bit unusual due to the Soviet disruption rules.

be careful at 5,000', yes you slip beneath a lot of AA but you risk high operational losses - see 19.5.2

generally testing a game with a lot of potential is a good idea for me. I have spent several thousand hours with WitW, earlier of course WitE, I notice big differences when it comes to ground AA fire.
Of course, the manual mentions that an attack from a height below 5000 ft can avoid traditional AA fire, but can also lower morale. You rightly mentioned additional operational losses.

Returning to the topic: level bombers at 5000 ft (not below) or 6000ft, are 37 mm guns and 76.2 mm guns 100% as effective at such a low height ??
I know from the manual that at low altitudes an important element is the speed of the plane at high altitude, the principle works the higher the better.
Where is a low altitude in game and how effective are medium flak guns at low altitude ??
