taffjones -> Uncompleted/Ghosted PBEM games Victory conditions (4/13/2021 1:13:17 AM)

1'st off this isn't a thread to name and shame players who don't complete PBEM games, for what ever reason.

God knows at the moment there a a multitude of reasons, someone may not be able to continue a PBEM game and also not be able to communicate that to other players they are currently playing. I am not going to list the reasons for obvious reasons, none of us knows how this C19 or its fallout has affected other players or their families.

But when you have been in a winning position and suddenly your opponent stops playing turns (and you can see through other's comment's that they are still playing other turns against other opponents) and your game times out and the result is a "Stalemate".

It's Very frustrating to say the least. If your opponent hasn't played their turn in the month it takes to time out, I feel that they should forfeit the game as at least a Major Defeat.

If someone has been seriously ill, and unable to play. I don't think they would think this is unfair.

What are your opinions?

ELO game? Post your 'W'. We're grown ass old men (by birth, He, Him, He-Man) in this thread far as I'm aware. Don't need Judge Judy (that's American TV) to make this call. This isn't a Supreme Court ruling need majority of the Justices to make/repeal law. Actually, maybe we should vote on a Judge on the site? Or even have a jury. "12 Angry Men", that's classic film. The original is great. The remake, blah.

Up until my participation in the official tournament i hadn't experienced ghosting in this game, but it's certainly annoying when it happens. As you mention, people could have lots of reasons for not being able to play but more often than not you'd get the opportunity to at least write a quick PM to give a heads up.

I think a month with no returned turn is more than fair to award an automatic win to the active player.

Unfortunately the server currently does not support awarding a winner if a player stops playing. It does for tournament mode, and I can see if this can be extended for regular mode or not. But even if so, it might take some time for it to become an option.

Upon further reflection, I might have a way around the server limitation... let me think about this one.

Whoever is late for the party (and I have not idea who), please report.
Your sins will be forgotten where the East meets the West.
Currently, only AWOL (Absent Without Leave).
Do not take this past 30-days, or become a Deserter.

In the military, AWOL stands for Absent Without Leave and basically means you are not where you are supposed to be at a particular time. After a certain period of time (30-day rule), the AWOL status turns to a desertion status. These type of offenses can vary in seriousness from 15 minutes late for formation to being placed on the FBI Most Wanted List. (other countries, well, nighty-nighty)

Desertion after 30 days should definitely be an ELO House Rule

As you are the keeper of the records it's entirely your call but FWIW I agree entirely.
