Zap -> ?? Outlook account (4/29/2021 10:39:38 PM)

got a notice from supposedly an administration microsoft.

Telling me my account will be eliminated if I don't verify because they have been trying to update and I ignored them. So it ask me to verify and then I get an e-mail they have an update but they don't send the access to the update. Are these scammers. I know some here use outlook and can help me understand whats happening.

Sometimes the scammers are just looking for active accounts, they try all sorts of combinations for user names and see which one respond.

If you need to update something, find the link from the organization itself and not one provided in an e-mail.

I should note that their response came in as junk mail. If it was administration service from Microsoft wound't it be a regular email and not thrown in junk mail.

My gmail account doesn't has never had administration come into my account like this

Thanks, I should have guessed that but I wanted to be sure.

It is most likely a scam. I get the same type of stuff from other sites like PayPal, Amazon and Netflix. The Netflix is obvious since I don't have a Netflix account.

Typically, the email will include a small graphic image that links to their site. That way they know if someone actually looked at the mail.

Most modern email clients provide robust junk mail filtering and support for setting up rules for handling suspicious emails automatically. I have over two dozen rules set up to dispose of messages accordingly. Outlook has a very good rule system so if that is your client you can reduce these types of email.

For example Removing Stubborn Junk Mail
