Thanks for the links! I've downloaded and am reading Cole's book. It is very well written and I'll probably end up buying a hard copy for the bookshelf, Amazon has it in new paperback listed as $27.99 (USD). [8D]

If you can buy the hardcover, I buy the paperback but is without the maps !
(So I made a colour print of the pdf maps)

Hitler’s Last Gamble, Dupuy
A Time for Trumpets, MacDonald
The Bitter Woods, Eisenhower (John)

It is unfortunate that I don’t have any German book on the topic.
Prefer reading about the German side in German books.

Dupuy is always an interesting read.

Very good book, I love this kind of literature.

Battle of the Bulge: Then and Now

Meticulously researched and presented. Highly recommended.

+1

Beevor is a reliable author. Particularly liked his "Stalingrad", less so "Crete 41".

Yeah, that's a really heavyweight, with many many great photos. And the comparison of photos of the same place between then and now is very interesting ("now" means 1980s, when the book was published). A fine book.

The thing is, I'm always getting sad everytime I look into it. There are many photos of destroyed war machines and fallen soldiers. There's no glorification. (If that's a good or a bad thing depends on the expectations and the feelings of the reader, of course).

Btw, Chris: I connect your name with "TAO2", am I right? What's your opinion about DC:Ardennes Offensive? As a former TAO2 fan, I really like the new game!

rocketman71 -> RE: Books & reference material about Ardennes '44 (1/27/2022 6:04:15 PM)

I can highly recommend Christer Bergstrom's "The Ardennes, 1944-1945: Hitler's Winter Offensive", very well written in scope but also in clarity of following the events of the offensive. Filled to the brim with photographs, many that hadn't been published before.

Battle of the Bulge: Hitler's Ardennes Offensive, 1944-1945
by Danny S. Parker

Old but good.

Missed Battle of the Bulge: Then and Now, didn't have the cash, regretted it ever since
