Uxbridge -> Light Map and Counter variation (5/1/2021 12:03:50 PM)

While waiting for the more prominent modders to do their bit, I hearby offer my own set for anyone interested. This is not a mod in the true sense of the meaning–I have done them for my own sake and isn't going to change anything unless I want that change myself.

In order to use the counters properly, the Air Units Statistics in Options must be set to Operation Dots/Air to Air/Tactical/Naval Air/Strategic (third option). Otherwise the figures won't appear in the proper strength boxes.

I haven't started any play yet, thought I should make up the counters first. By chance, I noticed that the patrol flotilla graphics took from the earlier unknown unit part of the set. Changed that in the last hour. There might be some more oddities due to changes I'm not aware of. If so, nice if you could tell me.

In order to use these graphics, merely place the files in the campaign folder of the scenario being played.

I give you a link to Dropbox and this link will always be the most recent one:

Thanks for making it available.

Maybe I should know, but have wondered about the significance of the diagonal, colored stripe, on air units. Just another way of identifying air unit types?

Uxbridge -> RE: Light Map and Counter variation (mod) (5/1/2021 1:56:18 PM)

Spot on. If you see something red behind the front line it's a fighter; no need to look carefully at each unit. Green is tactical; blue level bomber; and dark green with an extra red stripe is strategic.

cbelva -> RE: Light Map and Counter variation (mod) (5/2/2021 11:47:27 PM)

I like this mode better than the counters that came with the game. However, you are missing airfields and "unknown" units (diamond in the NATO box).

Uxbridge -> RE: Light Map and Counter variation (mod) (5/3/2021 5:29:20 AM)

You're absolutely right. Thanks, it solved a haunting mystery for me. Originally I just tried with the old counters and they seemed to work fine. When a patrol boat flotilla showed up as infantry, I thought Alvaro hade used the unknown unit graphics for it, since the new FoW system made them obsolete. But I now see he has widened the whole png-file, and realize that unknowns are still part of the game.

I will look into it at once.

Uxbridge -> RE: Light Map and Counter variation (mod) (5/3/2021 8:23:21 AM)

Now it works. Good you made me aware of this. Last evening I played five months in almost total FoW. I tried to upload a new sample, but Matrix won't let me.

jacktimes2 -> RE: Light Map and Counter variation (mod) (5/3/2021 2:22:31 PM)

Something is wrong on the Matrix side of things. I’m seeing multiple reports of being unable to upload anything, instead getting a “500 error”.

Uxbridge -> RE: Light Map and Counter variation (mod) (5/3/2021 5:36:57 PM)

Yes, that's correct–500 error. Glad it wasn't anything I did wrong.

ADMIRAL3 -> RE: Light Map and Counter variation (mod) (5/5/2021 7:59:40 AM)

Now what? Where can I extract the new Map and Units into the game files? I did not find any in documents/warplan/pacific nor in x64 programs. TY for your kind help. LBM

Uxbridge -> RE: Light Map and Counter variation (mod) (5/5/2021 12:33:17 PM)

Find the folder for the scenario you want to play (or are playing, for that matter). On my system it landed in Documents/My Games/WarPlan Pacific/Scenarios. Simply drop the graphics files into the campaign folder of the scenario concerned, and they should show up when you start the game. If you don't like them, you simply reverse the process by deleting them.

Uxbridge -> RE: Light Map and Counter variation (mod) (5/5/2021 1:24:01 PM)

I wasn't overly happy with the foilage graphics, so I added saturation, giving it a more "lushy" feeling, while toning down the swamps a bit.

Uxbridge -> RE: Light Map and Counter variation (mod) (5/5/2021 1:38:25 PM)

I have always thought the US and British colours were a tad too dark, sometimes making them difficult to look at with old eyes. They now come in lighter tones (the British being desert khaki).

Uxbridge -> RE: Light Map and Counter variation (mod) (5/5/2021 1:40:55 PM)

The Chinese counters have new colour to distinguish them better from the Japanese, albeit not being as dark as in my first try.

Lastly, the Australians had a tendency to melt with their homeland terrain, why I gave them a darker green uniform.

Edorf -> RE: Light Map and Counter variation (mod) (5/5/2021 9:25:40 PM)

Very nice, Uxbridge.

Are the files in the Dropbox link good to go or is this a WIP?

Uxbridge -> RE: Light Map and Counter variation (mod) (5/6/2021 5:00:33 AM)

They're good to go.

incbob -> RE: Light Map and Counter variation (mod) (5/6/2021 7:06:08 AM)

Looks like sharp.

Magpius -> RE: Light Map and Counter variation (mod) (5/6/2021 8:01:50 AM)

Any chance you could give the Australian units an Australian Flag?
(will make a retro mod sooner or later... just a tad busy playing scenario #102 from Schwerpunkt).

Magpius -> RE: Light Map and Counter variation (mod) (5/6/2021 9:46:30 AM)

Could some kind folk post or link some examples of classic Pacific Board games or counter set colors they'd like to see.
I'm looking for some graphic precedents.
Save me browsing through boardgamegeek.

I would look in the World of Flames forum. I think WiF does a great job.

incbob -> RE: Light Map and Counter variation (mod) (5/6/2021 4:01:53 PM)

Okay. I loaded up this mod.

First. Good Job. I would love to try, but scares the crap out of me so understand I appreciate what you have done.

The heavy rain versus light rain is detectable, but difficult. I would suggest having light rain be a few drops going from top right to bottom left. You could then make heavy rain more drops going from top left to bottom right.

One thing, change the color of the convoy routes. The white dot is okay, I don't mind that, but when you get rain going it is really hard to see.

incob: Problem with the weather image is I have to draw it trial and error; I have no idea where the hex is while doing it. It took me several months before I finally arrived at something that felt good enough, and part of it was the previous work by Panzermike or some other talent.

Uxbridge -> RE: Light Map and Counter variation (mod) (5/6/2021 6:13:02 PM)

Magpius: I tried to do Australian and New Zealand flags earlier (could have been Strategic Command), but the flags on the units were so small they just melted into a blur. Since these countries were under overall British command anyway, I opted for national colour with the easier to recognise Union Jack. I will stick to this. I could, of course, make a special variant for you personally, should such time to do it pop up.

There is a reason I am not doing this. [:)]
I was just pointing it out.
I did go in and change the convoy dot color to red and it shows up much better. I might try looking at the weather....but not even sure how to do it.

Uxbridge -> RE: Light Map and Counter variation (mod) (5/6/2021 7:55:47 PM)

I tried some work with the convoys some days ago. I have problem knowing which is which and thought I could add the name of the convoy lane in the hex. That worked fine, but the image size increased slightly, making the roads come apart much more. I have no idea why it does that. Meddling with it, I sort of learned where the convoys were routed, so I gave up the effort.

ADMIRAL3 -> RE: Light Map and Counter variation (mod) (5/7/2021 9:01:30 AM)

TYVM UXBRIDGE It works fine and game is tremendously improved

Uxbridge -> RE: Light Map and Counter variation (mod) (5/7/2021 8:11:42 PM)

Nice you liked it.

Simulacra53 -> RE: Light Map and Counter variation (mod) (5/8/2021 6:39:23 AM)

Looks like you mixed up the Dutch and Yugoslav national flags (or the aircraft markings).

Red, White & Blue
Vs
Blue, White & Red

Side note, the Dutch changed their aircraft markings from orange neutrality triangles to a red, white and blue flag in 1942.

Have only just started playing the China campaign - so have not seen the actual impact of these observations, only what I have seen on the counter file.

Uxbridge -> RE: Light Map and Counter variation (mod) (5/8/2021 5:31:52 PM)

You're right, so I did. Funny. I was probably looking for the flag in my artwork file by sight not text. Easy to fix, though. Just rotate 180 degrees. I was planning to lower the intensity on the fighter's red symbol, and can fix the Dutch at the same time. I will stick with the triangle, however, since the file is still interchangeable with Europe.

Uxbridge -> RE: Light Map and Counter variation (mod) (5/8/2021 8:08:40 PM)

Updated.
