LORDPrometheus -> Early Adventures in the Lost World (story) (5/3/2021 3:51:47 PM)

After my last game concluded with my allied major pulling a Ghandi has entered the modern era move and turning my already radioactive moon into an even more radioactive moon I decided to go for a more life friendly world.

After clicking random too many times to count I settled on a Siwa class planet with over a meter of average rainfall and a heavy atmosphere. Covered in lush forests and with a rich biosphere I thought this would be an easy start to a new game. I was wrong.

You see I didn't really pay too much attention to the alien life other than ensuring there were sapients to expl I mean study. I knew some of the other species were dangerous but I want not prepared for the dinosaur onslaught.

On my second turn I encountered the first of them, 25m long bipedal carnivores with metal armor and the ability to move through 6 forest hexes per turn. After losing several thousand men just trying to defend with no kills to their name I began a crash development course with my model design board to try and find a countermeasure. By turn 9 my first bazooka battalions were heading to the front but their rockets proved ineffective and they were slaughtered though finally brining harm to the abominations rampaging in my heartlands. Desperate for more firepower I deployed APCs and soon Light tanks but even their 60mm High Velocity guns were no match for these beasts and they were torn apart in a mess of teeth and claws. Desperate times call for desperate measures and I began deploying concentrated artillery sticks lowering the Dino's readiness before quickly counter attacking with tanks and buggys. With this and after nearly 9000 casualties my forces finally began to beat back the monsters but the arrival of more beats of varying species brought our nation back to the brink. Our salvation came with the advent of the 105mm High velocity anti tank gun. Despite tanking heavy casualties these powerful guns were at last able to reliably Pierce the hide of the great metal lizards and the people rejoice as their homes are being slowly liberated.

TL:DR I accidentally started in the Lost World and had to resort to rushing anti tank guns to survive

:D

Nice.

varangy -> RE: Early Adventures in the Lost World (story) (5/3/2021 5:35:14 PM)

Imagine me starting in this world. Hint: I always play with extra slow research option.

LORDPrometheus -> RE: Early Adventures in the Lost World (story) (5/3/2021 5:36:49 PM)

That would probably end poorly. These things count as having metal armor regeneration and cunning

Maerchen -> RE: Early Adventures in the Lost World (story) (5/3/2021 6:07:58 PM)

Tech III extra slow is my preferred start, too. I never play with aggressive fauna start because of that. But if it happens, it happens.

Could you show us a screenshot with their combat stats? Consider making it with the Windows Snipping tool, helps keep the size small.

Sure thing I'm at work at the moment and have to rush to a job interview once I get out but I'm sure I can find a few to take a few screen shots

LORDPrometheus -> RE: Early Adventures in the Lost World (story) (5/3/2021 7:09:12 PM)

Since I have to run in a few I couldn't go through a whole turn to gain recon on the carnivorous scary ones but here are the tank ones and some very angry salamanders for good measure

eddieballgame -> RE: Early Adventures in the Lost World (story) (5/3/2021 8:01:54 PM)

The 'herbivores' tend to be less aggressive.
My experience with them is they will not attack your units, but will grab territory.
They can be contained but some of them can also be very difficult to exterminate. [:)]
This is pre-1.09 patch...so maybe that has changed.

Morion -> RE: Early Adventures in the Lost World (story) (5/3/2021 10:00:01 PM)

Does this mean it has 200mm armor?

Sieppo -> RE: Early Adventures in the Lost World (story) (5/3/2021 10:18:10 PM)

Cool story :D! 105mm anti-tank guns (and actually 88mm after that when I have realized I don't have the metal to produce them) has literally saved me in my turtle defense against annihilation by superior enemy armor early game in my last two games.

LORDPrometheus -> RE: Early Adventures in the Lost World (story) (5/3/2021 10:28:35 PM)

Just got home and managed to get recon on the ones that are attacking currently the really big ones seem to be AWOL at the moment.

Yeah those things have chewed through literally 9000 riflemen

zgrssd -> RE: Early Adventures in the Lost World (story) (5/3/2021 11:38:12 PM)

The Salamder should be doable. 68 Soft HP. Defense values are lower the attack, but it also got burrower. IIRC that helped in defense combat.

But a Dinosaur with 149 Hard HP and MG level soft defense

And that that Metallic Dinosaur at 219 Hard HP - basically only tanks can think of fighting them. Personally I read "Metallic Devourer".

I have no idea which mm equivalent Animal Armor has. But I know that physical (melee) attacks do not use the callibre calculation.

How they behave on teh strategic map is largely defined by their Agression stat during planet creation.

And yes, Herbivores can be quite agressive and territorial.
The Hippo is actually the land animals with the most human kills/year in africa. Lions and poison snakes just are not nearly as dangerous.
And as a canadian, you do not want to find a moose licking salt of your car - because they will run you over if you approach.

LORDPrometheus -> RE: Early Adventures in the Lost World (story) (5/4/2021 12:38:45 AM)

Summary of traits on the Metallic Dinosaur:
Metallic I= 30% more hitpoints per level Classified as a hard target with metal armor
Amorphous III: 50% more hitpoints per level
Jumper II= 40% combat bonus in mountains
Reproducer = Horny
Evasion II= 50% bonus against non infantry Attackers

Yes, I live in Alaska...I know about moose. [:)]

Such a cool story!

As a new player, do you mind telling me how you rushed a specific tech? I thought they are assigned at random.

Go 90-100% discovery, 10-0% research - until they find the tech you want, then swap around.

Note that if you select nothing to research (only doable in Model and Staff Council right now), the excess research points are automatically transfered to discovery instead.

Since I was just rushing for a new model I set the model design council to 25% of my national budget and set their priorities to 80-20 discovery to research. Once I got the right model I simply flipped the priorities to rush our AT guns
