I have been up and running for two weeks. Tonight I ran the update. The game stops when I try to load a saved game, and I get a message that the application has stopped running. PLEASE HELP!

I can only suggest that you try reinstalling the game. Make sure you keep your save games stored somewhere then you can move them back to the /dat/save folder once you've reinstalled and installed the update. The old saves should absolutely work ok with the latest version.
