vilcum -> "fire in the East" tribute map (5/4/2021 9:29:20 PM)

With the new map being so friendly to customization I decided tomake a try to remenber old days with the GDW jewel "fire in the east" and later Europa series in general

DISCLAIMER: the map adaptation to land weather graphics is quite ad-hoc, It is best displayed with no-weather or only air weather

CAUTION: for best results you have to DELETE the "TILES" folder before extracting this file (as some coastals are removed). As allways make a backup before.

This looks awesome.

I like the table-top game feel.

I really liked this map that you put forward. Its a beauty.
Reminds me, as said, of the old board games from Avalon Hill and GDW.
Couldnt resist to show your map here in scenario-41 turn 20 2-nov.
Frontlines turn 15-20-25. Occupation dates.

Thanks for the support!, I really like your marker-counters idea for showing positions!, I plan to make some of them with german military simbols
to pair with my other map project (based on dec 6 german ostfront operationskarte)... but that will take a time as I want to repair at least the major flaws on this one.

Hi!
Do you mean dec 6 operationskarte in scale 1:1M (the "real one")( base International Weltkarte)
or one in scale 1: 2,5M?
Maps in scale as the latest one are in princip the base of the WitE maps and therefore easier to handle.

I mean this one , basically very plain and low tones

I think its a realistic choice of map type to work with. Its in scale 1:2,5M.
The map that Dreamslayer gives a link to is very functional and fine but perhaps
more difficult to work with when its in scale 1-1M. But I can be wrong.
Alternative in that range is the every-day Lagekarten. Can be downloaded at;

Updated files in main post link , List of changes

- most (all?) coast repaired
- most coastal woods now fit better their hex
- worst oversize square forest tiles modified
- Clear terrain does not dissapear any more on non-clear weather conditions, but most others hex items not yet ready for land weather display

Francophile -> RE: "fire in the East" tribute map (5/19/2021 2:32:53 PM)

Still waiting on Total War publication? Website frozen on 2016. I sold all of my Europa stuff a while ago.

vilcum -> RE: "fire in the East" tribute map (5/19/2021 3:01:19 PM)

I was waiting for it, for a long time. I got all the full game collection, some of the best gaming moments in my life are those related to fire in the east/scorched Earth.

Tried to begin a new FITE game last year but age and the computer era make soooo more easy playing Wite instead... and specially with wite 2 solving two of the main fite (and most tabletopd game) problems , logistics and attacking side attrition.

Here is a blast from the past, this is from my cyberboard game box (remember that?)

Yep. Grew up on those games. DNO/UNT when it first came out. Played it days on end in college.

[X(] After seeing this I think I am gonna try to make some counters for this map, taking the vassal ones as models

vilcum -> RE: "fire in the East" tribute map (5/21/2021 2:53:49 PM)

Less useful than stock, as it does not show army afiliation, but quite the thing this map needs . Only made max zoom (44x44) version

briklebritt -> RE: "fire in the East" tribute map (5/23/2021 4:00:06 PM)

These counters are great, but I wish there would be the color of each corps on the counter too like in vanilla game. Is it possible to mark your counters with the color of the corps?

Yes, there is, I made that ones just for being faithfull to the map, In my "gaming" version I use this variation

briklebritt -> RE: "fire in the East" tribute map (5/23/2021 4:58:28 PM)

[X(]looks great, you will upload these counters?

vilcum -> RE: "fire in the East" tribute map (5/23/2021 5:16:48 PM)

Here you are, Only in 44x44 (I use to play a different counter set on each zoom level so I doubt I will make this ones in other sizes)

jsqdcsq -> RE: "fire in the East" tribute map (5/24/2021 1:44:49 AM)

Hoping to see your final work! It looks pretty cool!

briklebritt -> RE: "fire in the East" tribute map (5/24/2021 8:54:48 AM)

Thanks vilcum, I will test it [:)]

vilcum -> RE: "fire in the East" tribute map (5/26/2021 2:59:37 PM)

I finally tried adapting the map to weather graphics , though not fully tested and the map remains designed to be used withouth weather, this is the new look with mud/winter conditions (link on first post updated)
